Starting liquids early
Is there any risk to switching meals out for protein shakes before the pre-op diet officially starts? Aside from the risk that I might get sick of the shakes before I even have surgery? :P I'm thinking that with the upcoming holiday craziness, it might make sense to swap out the meals that I eat alone for shakes now, just to work on losing as much weight as I can pre-op.

I don't have a date yet, I'm figuring it'll be late January at the earliest, and more likely february. I actually really like the shakes that I've got, heh :)

Agree with pharmgirl. I don't see any benefit to starting early unless you have some weight target before surgery. I did not have one of those and waited until the exact day of my pre-surg diet to change anything. My pre-surg diet was not liquids and it was not fun. I doubt all liquids will be better. You might taste test a few shakes before hand just to find what you like, but otherwise I'd say skip it and go all in the day your pre-surg diet starts.

I don't have a pre-surgery goal, it just seems like it would be good to make dietary changes now if I can, and to get off carbs if I can too!

Here is my 2 cents worth.
Starting learning good habits now!
It will make everything so much easier down the road.
I am not saying start the liquid diet. I am saying change your diet, detox from carbs and sugar, exercise, drink more water, and eat 5-6 small meals. 2 of those meals could be protein shakes.
Build those good habits now and it will be second nature by the time you get to surgery. It sure helped me!!!
This is pretty much what I'm thinking (although my NUT only wants me eating 3 meals a day plus a pre-gym carb). I already drink tons of water (since I'm a kidney stone prone person) and exercise, so I figure that swapping my alone meals (breakfast and lunch most days) to shakes now to get more protein into my body and fewer carbs and sugars makes a lot of sense. :)
