Birth control pills

This is a question I should have asked my doc, but it completely slipped my mind.  It's on my list now, but I was hoping for answers sooner from you all!

How will vsg impact my birth control pills?  Will I need to go off them for a few months?  Or stop before surgery?

My program requires we go off BC pills two months before surgery, and stay off for two months after.

Erk.  Four months is a looong time for me to deal with my natural hormones.

Also, when you are losing weight quickly, your hormones can go a bit nuts and you can become fertile if you weren't before. Fat cells store small amounts of estrogen, so when the fat is burned, the estrogen is released into your system. I got an IUD because I didn't want to take any chances.

Thankfully I've already got a tubal ligation, so I'm not worried about the pregnancy thing.  I just take BCP to control my insane periods!

My surgeon stated to go off them 2 weeks before surgery. Now as for the after, they might not be AS effective after. He suggest use additional protection. I just stopped cold turkey and don't plan on going back.

The reason why they want you to stop BC pills beforehand is the increased risk of blood clots. They want to do everything they can to minimize that risk. I would call your doctor and double check tomorrow what they require!

Ahhh, I hadn't made the connection on clots, that totally makes sense!

I have an IUD and my hormones have been going haywire since surgery, I've been having the closest thing to a period since I got it put in 3 years ago, ugh :(
