Blood Pressure changes

So since my surgery on August 5th, 2013, I have been doing very well and following my plan consistently and well.  I have recently been noticing that when I get up quickly after bending over, bending down, lying down that I become very, very dizzy.  I have been taking my blood pressure and it is lower than it used to be.  I used to run typically 130/80.  now I can typically run 100/60.  I'm wondering if it's the fact that my salt intake has drastically decreased along with all the other typical changes that occur with WLS.  I see my surgeon next month and of course, will bring all this up.  But I am wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences and what you found out from your experiences?  Thanks!

I'm having the same issues.  Mine normally ran where yours is now.  Today after working out it was 110/74.  Later at work it was 80/58.  You should make an appt with your PCP and not wait until next month to see your surgeon.    Best of luck to you.

If you are on any BP meds, see the PCP about adjusting or eliminating then.  I had the same situation happen within a month a surgery.  Once I stopped all meds it went away.

if no meds, I got no idea how to proceed except to talk with your PCP.

Thanks for the feedback.  Yeah, it wouldn't hurt to see my PCP especially since I need to get some labwork done before my visit with the surgeon as my surgeon wants to see my labwork.  I am just curious as to others experience with this.  I have never been on blood pressure medication.  I'm hoping that it will eventually equalize.

I have had the exact same problem.  I was in the 140's before surgery and was on meds.  After surgery I quickly began tapering my meds.

I had an episode in December (one month after surgery) and ended up in the ER.  By the time I got there my BP was 110.  Stopped my meds altogether.   I have started checking my BP at home and I tend to run in the 120's.

This past Saturday I had another episode (very dizzy after stepping out of the shower, had to hold onto the wall and slowly sit down.  This time I just sat down and talked myself through it.  I had just finished my workout and I had checked my BP before my shower, it was 94, the lowest it has been that I am aware of.

Seeing my PCP next Monday, I will bring it up again.

It's most likely orthostatic hypotension, also called positional hypotension. Check your BP while sitting or laying down, and then immediately after standing. If it drops a bunch, that's what it is. I've blacked out a few times from it.

All you can do is increase fluids, eat more salt and electrolytes, and get up slowly. It's fairly common postop.

I was recently in the ER with these same symptoms. I was told to stop my blood pressure med and I feel so much better now! (I'm almost 5 weeks out.) Good luck!

I have the same issue. When I was my heaviest I always had the normal 120/80 blood pressure now it is always low. Last time I went to the PCP I believe it was 99/56. They just say your blood pressure is kind of low, that seems normal for you these days huh. I drink 14 glasses of water of day so it isnt dehydration. I was never a big salt fan before so I dont think that has decreased any. The PCP doesn't seem to be concerned though. I do try to drink a G2 here and there though, if the salt helps it helps.

I'm keeping up with the posts...so thanks for posting.  Yeah...I'm going to do my blood pressure readings while sitting and then when standing to see if there is a huge difference.  I really think I get way less salt than I used to get and just with the surgery and all it has made a difference especially with the weight loss.
