Waiting...

On Monday I get to call the surgeon's nurse and get my second tentative surgery date scheduled.  I'm really hoping for March 13.  (THe doc found an ulcer in my pre-op endoscopy and it needed to be treated prior to surgery.)

So the other day, I was talking with one of my close friends about surgery, and she asked if I was nervous or scared and I had to scratch my head since all I feel is excitement and the desire to just get it done already!  My friend thinks I'm weird.  I assume I will get nervous the night before surgery, but right now I'm just so thrilled to finally be taking control back of the body I've allowed to control me for entirely too long.

I never got nervous...just excited.  Even the morning of the surgery I'd say I got a little somber, you know, just knowing there were risks, and told my husband that if anything did happen to me that I was OK with that because I was doing what I really wanted to do to make my life better, but I never really thought anything would happen anyway, so it wasn't really nerves.  It was a couple of weeks after the surgery that it kind of hit me what I'd done, and what a change I'd made to my life.  I don't think it's something you can really prepare for, no matter how much research you do.  But that only lasted maybe a month, and wasn't that bad, and I never regretted a thing.  Now it's like no big deal at all.  It's just how it is now and I don't really think about it any more.

You'll do great.  No reason to be nervous or scared!

Awesome, thanks!  I'm glad I'm not alone in my lack of nerves. :)  My friend made me feel like I must be a weirdo!

I was surprised how calm I was before surgery. I had been so scared of surgery that I put it off until I was 64 and weighed 385 pounds.  But at that point, I knew I had to do the surgery.  If I didn't my life was going to be a downward sprial of less mobility and poorer quality of life.  So I was resolved that whatever the outcome, it was my only choice.

So I was just excited, even on surgery day.  Plus my surgery went well - very little pain, and no nausea (thank you anti-nausea drugs).

I am so happy with my sleeve.  I thank God that we live in a time when we have a solution to obesity, and I have a second chance at life.

best of luck in your weight loss journey.  I wish you every success.

Carol

That's great!  I'm glad that I'm not alone in the "super excited" camp.
