Hi everyone! I'm looking into surgery again after I backed out of my first 5 years ago. I got all the way up to my surgery week and it had to be postponed and I backed out after that. I was originally going for RNY, but always wanted to do the VSG...it just wasn't offered here then. Now that I'm going to try this again I'm excited to have VSG as an option. I was active on OH years ago and when I decided to go for it again this was the first place I thought of. Is it still fairly active? Everyone was so helpful back then, it was nice to have support from people who have been there and done that.
What made you back out and what changed from that in the last 5 years?

Honestly, one big reason I backed out was pure fear. I wasn't 100% happy with the idea of RNY, but I knew I didn't want lapband so that was my only option locally. I ended up losing 70 lbs by myself while waiting for surgery and I thought I could do it on my own so that factored into it. What's changed is that I'm gaining back that 70 lbs. I've gained 50 of it back over the past 3 years...saying that makes me very sad actually. Hit me harder than I thought. Also knowing that I can get the VSG instead of RNY makes me a more comfortable.
Thanks! I needed to hear that. I was having second thoughts because I've been successful with preop dieting. But I KNOW that I've been successful like this many times-only to end up bigger!

Oh...I assumed you had surgery already! Even though I had no idea I was helping you I'm glad I did! While I kick myself every so often for backing out after going through EVERYTHING to have the surgery. I mean I was even on the preop liquid diet. I was days away. I guess everything happens for a reason though and at least now I'll be able to try for the VSG instead of RNY. I am beyond ready, but it is still scary. I'm a big chicken, the idea of surgery scares me, but I'm not sure I know many people who are super excited about surgeries.
I totally know what you mean. Before, when I've considered WLS, the only option has been RNY and it never sat well with me at all. I'm totally psyched about VSG, though!
