How long after surgery did it take before you felt like your bowels were really back to normal again?

I'm 9 months out, and I would have to redefine normal to say I was there yet!  I need to take Miralax daily to keep things moving.  I'm curious of others have returned to normal, or if most people need an aid.

best wishes,

Carol

4 months out, still not normal. I'm not constipated but there is no flow ..just a bit here and there. I've turned to Fleet so as to avoid that scenario when I'm out socializing. Works like a charm.  I do take a senekote daily which softens but doesn't help with the expel part.

I am by no means normal, but it happens when it feels like it.  I take a daily fiber gummy and that is all I need to take.

it gets much better when you can eat some veggies at each meal and get your fiber up to around 8 gm or more

Ugh! Most folks here are having trouble with constipation; I'm just the opposite - nothing wants to stay in my gut right now. I've renamed my gut Death Bag, since everything I eat pretty much comes out an hour later in much the same state as it went in.

I hope this is not my new normal.

I'm 7 weeks post-op. It took about 3-4 weeks for the diarrhea to stop, but then I was on a liquid diet. Liquid in, liquid out.  I started on soft mushies at week 3 and since then my stools have been firm, about every day or two. Occasionally they get hard, but really, not too bad. I have had IBS for years, tending toward diarrhea so this is actually kind of a relief.

Interestingly I never had an issue and it's even more normal now that I can eat some veggies sometimes. My protein, though, has never come from just meat and shakes. Beans were highly encouraged by my doctors team and I have included black beans, pinto beans, or white beans in my diet since I started purees a week out (this was my doctors plan - others have their patients on liquids for longer periods of time). I also have eaten chili since then, too, I just pureed it when I was in that stage.
