Sizing frustratiosn - so petty!!

So, I know this is insignificant, in the grand scheme of things, but I'm so frustrated w/ my shape!  At my weight, no one wears the size I wear!  I see people wearing 10, 12, 14...they weigh more than me.  People in my size might weigh significantly more than me.  I don't get it!  haha  I do realize that I have extremely small legs and arms but still.  Does ANYONE else have this huge discrepancy??  I weigh 182 and I wear a 16 jean.  I can button a 14 but I don't like tight clothes.  I can pull on a 12 but not button them.  It also takes me 15 lbs to lose a size where so many people say 10.

So, my petty vent is over.  Very happy for those who can wear the smaller sizes so early!  Just wish I were one of you!

I'm right there with you. I'm short and my fat is primarily in my stomach, so I'm poochy in the front.  It takes me at least 13-15 pounds to drop a size. I'm a busty gal, so I need at least one size larger than the bottoms. At the moment I'm 166 wearing a size 12 in dress pants, a 8/10 in stretchy capris, a 12/14 or Large in shirts, and a 16 in bathing suits. So you see I'm all over the place and it's hard to shop for clothes. Even if I get the right size, my shape is just a little weird. Still, I'd rather be hear than in the 20/22 that I was in 6 months ago.

You can do this.

HW: 229 ; SW: 208 (-21);  GW: 125

Wt. Loss:   M1: 189 -(19)  M2: 178 (-11)  M3: 172 (-5)  M4: 170 (-2)  M5: 166 (-4)

Yep - all stomach here.  Not busty.  My butt also carries extra weight but no one would call it my problem area.  But seriously, my legs rock and I can brag on that I guess.  My thighs don't even touch.  haha  I look like a plum stuck on a couple of toothpicks.

But yes, definitely prefer where I am to the 24/26 I wore pre-surgery!

Might be your height too. I'm only 5'2" so a size 12 on me looks totally different than a 12 on someone taller. Remember it isn't the size on the tag that matters at all. It's how you FEEL! Hope you are feeling great.

I'm 5'4" so not considered short per se.  And you're right.  I FEEL great!  :-)  Thank you.

It partly depends on where you buy your clothes/where your clothes are made.  I am a size 14 American, size 16 New Zealand, and size 18 UK. (I am 5'4" and weigh about 180).  In my experience, the higher quality the clothing, the smaller they are.

This is true.  And since I buy at the Goodwill right now because I don't plan on wearing these clothes that long I'm pretty much stuck buying whatever they have.  I've noticed that Cato jeans fit me very well.  Lee jeans don't fit me at all.  Some Old Navy run really big.  Nine West seems to be small.  Talbots seem to be pretty true.  So yeah, I guess there is no such thing as a standard size anymore.

I think it has a lot to do with height.  I'm 5'10 and 185 and wearing a 12 / L.  You will get there -- and beyond.  I'll be lucky to get into a 10 even at goal.

My sister is 6 foot and 185 is the lightest she ever got -- and she was thin in a size 12.  She wears a size 12 from 185 - 205 lbs.  At 200 I was in a 14 -- so the height definitely matters, as well as muscle tone etc.

I've noticed the lbs between sizes drops significantly as you get closer to goal.  It took me a good 20 - 25 lbs to drop from the 20/22 to an 18.  Now 10 lbs is a big change.  Your next 10 lbs could take you much further than you expect :)

I hope  my next 10 lbs makes more difference!  haha

You make good points, though, because I don't know how tall people are when they talk about their sizes.  I might be one of the shortest here.  :-)

Hi,

Sorry you are feeling frustrated! Jeans are a tough one - I've also had to wear a size up in jeans - there's very little give in jeans - no room for extra skin! That said a size 16 for 180 lb-ish sounds about right to me. I don't like tight clothes either - especially around my belly. Don't dwell on size! You'll get there!
