PCP visit for problems - sort of...
So, for about a month I've been dealing with some symptoms that I think have to do w/ the rapid weight loss. Medically, syncope w/ collapse. Laymen, dizzy and lightheaded and falling out. My blood pressure before surgery was excellent. After my "episodes" it's usually fairly low (80s/50s) based on the machine w/ have at work. My PCP (not really the truth - he's a resident at Vanderbilt in my PCP internal medicine clinic because she wasn't available for several weeks) thinks it could be due to dehydration and recommended that I up my 100 oz/day to 200 oz/day but wanted me to call surgeon's office, first, to make sure that wasn't too much. LOL I do have a call into my surgeon but until they call back I just felt like tossing the question to you all. 200 oz of water - really?! Do any of you drink that much?
He also did some bloodwork including B, D, A vitamins, iron, CBC, and metabolic panel and an EKG to make sure my heart wasn't doing anything weird (it wasn't). But i just thought tha****er recommendation was grasping. I don't think I'm dehydrated at all.
I'm with you - you aren't that likely to be dehydrated drinking 100oz of water a day. Any idea how much sodium you're getting in your diet? I know with a ketogenic diet (which most of us low-carbers wind up being on), you actually excrete more sodium than someone on an average diet does. Low sodium can have a lot of those same symptoms, but you should know more after getting your labs back. I hope it's something easily addressed!
You may already know this, but if these spells are happening to you when you stand or right after standing or sitting up, pump your legs several times before you stand, like you are riding a bicycle, cross them one over the other, and stretch out your toes -- repeat for about 30 seconds. This helps a lot of people.
