Just my thoughts on pasta, rice, potatoes, pop, etc

I became overweight for a reason. I did this surgery for a reason. Why would I knowingly eat the items that are 'bad' for my weightloss?  I WOULD NOT! I'm very strict with myself.  It's a life change I excepted and expected going into this. I can live without pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, pop, sugar, chocolate and many other things. I'm stronger than food.

Sorry for my rant but I know that many others feel the same way I do.

Uh, yep.  I agree with you for the most part.  Pasta, rice and potatoes will never again be part of my daily diet.  I have taken a bite of them on occasion since surgery, but they certainly aren't something I want to introduce into my life again.

I'm.a new sleever,10 days out,  but the reasons I feel like I've been given a chance to get my life back...reborn if you wil. So, I too (can't say never) will work my butt off for this opportunity I have been given to be successful and try my best to stay away from those good that bright me to where I was 20 days ago!  In the last 20 days I've lost 28 lbs (this includes pre-op) and I just can't wait to see where this journey takes me!

I personally don't believe that there are "bad" foods.  There are certainly choices that are better than others, for sure.  Some people can do the moderation thing, some people can't - we've all got to find the lifestyle that works best for ourselves.

Congrats Jewel! Thats fantastic progress!

I'm realistic.  I'm not saying never but I'm going to do my best to avoid them. Maybe once I get to goal or maybe not at all.

I completely agree with you!!! 100%   I think one of the reasons I've lost as much and as quickly as I have is because I have done everything to stay clear of pasta rice beads and soda ... There is a time and place for everything and for me during weight loss was not that time... now that I'm in maintenance maybe some day I will introduce some back in down the road in moderation but during weight loss. . Nahhhhhh not for me!!!  But that's just my choice!!! :-) best of luck to you!!! :-)

I support you in making the choices you believe are best for you.

I will say that I've eaten all those foods since my WLS, in moderation.  Have they been "bad" for my weight loss?  I don't think so.  I am nearly six years post op, am 5'4" and weigh 150 lbs right now - 10 lbs over my "goal weight."  I'm happy with my weight.  My blood pressure is normal, as is my blood sugar.  I have no weight-related health problems currently.

I was just thinking today how I haven't had coffee, diet soda, any type of candy, sugar, chocolate, since Aug. 11th.  I never would have lasted this long on any other diet.  I don't even miss it.

I personally don't follow that philosophy, but if that works for you then go for it.  I have a 1/2 slice of pizza, a 1/4 c pasta or 1/2 and english muffin if i feel like it - and eat oatmeal (old fashion slow cooked)  fairly often.  You do have to be able to eat these things in "control."  I know I can't eat a bagel - i love them too much and they just make me want more.  Everyone needs to do what works best for them within their doctor's guidelines.
