4 months out (double digits!)

I just noticed in my ticker that I have less than 100 lbs to lose. That is just amazing to me! When I went for my first consult in March, I had 170lb to lose and that seemed so overwhelming to me. Now at almost 4 months out, for the first time in my life, I feel hopeful that I can and will reach my goal. I'm in desperate need of new pants; people I haven't seen in a while don't recognize me (new haircut and glasses also throw people off); I can cross my legs comfortably and wear my wedding rings. Since surgery, I have been telling friends about my WLS, and I have had nothing but support. In fact, I found out that two of them are in the process of getting their own sleeves! Before I was sleeved, I was worried about handling holidays and family events with a sleeve, but it is no big deal. I eat my protein and a little veggie if there's room (usually there isn't), and I feel satisfied. I still enjoy time with family and friends, even without all the food. I don't mind passing on my old favorite foods like I thought I would. I love my sleeve and I'm looking forward to another 4 months!

Congratulations! You must be so proud of yourself. That is a terrific weight loss for 4 months and some great NSV's. I envy your attitude and ease of handling this. I feel like a big whiner. I'm only two weeks out but am really struggling. I'm doing fine physically but the head stuff is really hard for me. I'm hungry. Time is passing so slowly. I just don't believe yet and I'm having trouble staying positive. Keep up your wonderful success. I love to read stories like yours.

Are you seeing a therapist?  Mine is a really important part of my Obesity Recovery Team and helps with the head stuff.  It also helps me to stay really busy.

Thanks, Gwen, that is probably a good idea. I'll look into it. I think maybe I am not keeping myself busy enough. It's just that so many of my activities involved seeing friends and centered around meeting for lunch or dinner or drinks. My whole life is so different.

I understand. And not seeing your friends can certainly be adding to your depression!  I am able to enjoy going out for food with my friends now. So it won't always be the way it is right now and I've had fun finding new things to do with friends that don't involve food!  It's a challenge, but totally possible :)

Thank you! Hang in there! I wasn't doing this good at 2 weeks out. I remember really wanting a cheeseburger during the pureed stage! :-) For me it got better as I was able to start eating solid food again. Eating food that tastes good is more satisfying than mush. As for hunger, are you on an acid-blocker? Sometimes the extra stomach acid can mimic hunger. If it is truly is hunger, check with your dietician about changing up your eating times.
