6 months out - an update

Hi Everyone,

13 months ago I met with the surgeon to begin the VSG process. I was approved for lap-band in 2008 but chickened out. After a second child and another two rounds of up and down 40 pounds I decided to pull the trigger.

Tomorrow is my 6 month surgiversary. I started the pre-op at 280 pounds at 5'8". Today I am 205!

I still have some serious bad habits to break, but my sleeve is my seatbelt and I couldn't be happier. My biggest struggle is pantry grazing before dinner and still wanting a night snack.

My choices aren't bad, it's just not necessary to snack at those times. I really need to fix this issue before it gets out of control. However, when I step back and look at the big picture, I am a shadow of the eating person I was before. No take out, no soda, no bread...and I'm okay with it.

To everyone who is thinking about the VSG, we all have different stories. I obsessed over everyone's posts and experiences before surgery. I was so worried! If you have a master surgeon, all should go well! Good luck to you all and I'll see you at my one year post!

I always have a snack between lunch and dinner and another at night. My late night snack is my favorite, and truthfully my mind would be all abuzz if I stopped eating at 6 p.m. and didn't go to bed for another 6 hrs.  My therapist and nutritionist both say there is nothing wrong with that as long as I am hitting my daily goals for calories, protein and carbs. It might not be "necessary" to eat at those times, but if you want to why not make it part of the program (with your professionals' blessing of course)?

Congrats on your loss! Quite an accomplishment.
