Calcium Citrate
The amount will depend on your lab work. For me, I take 1200mg per day but divided up into am and pm. I tried Citracal (both the regular and the "petites" but I had a hard time getting them down my throat. So I found these: https://www1.bariatricadvantage.com/catalog/us-en/2/Calcium I use the caramel chewy bites. So much better to get down plus it feels like a piece of candy I get to eat. :) As for when, I think I started my medicine the next day but my vitamins about 4 or 5 days post surgery (maybe a week?). After surgery, you're main goal is water.
The ones I found that my husband can tolerate really well are from Celebrate vitamins. They have 500 mg calcium citrate chews in chocolate and berry. You can go right to celebratevitamins dot com to get them. They've been a real lifesaver for us.

The Orange Burst chewable are very tasty, and a lot cheaper than the chews.

The Citrical chews are calcium carbonate, not calcium citrate. You are absorbing very very little of these.

Looking at the printed info from my surgeons office it specifically instructs...
"Use chewable calcium supplements for the first few months after surgery. 500-600mg 2-3 times a day. Take at the end of meals. Once you can swallow larger pills, switch to a supplement that contains calcium citrate."
I knew I didn't pull that out of nowhere. I guess I will discuss this at next weeks appt.
There are chewable calcium citrate, but I don't think you will find them locally. Those are all carbonate or triphosphate. You'll need to go online to find chewable calcium citrate.

If you are going to use a chewable, use a chewable calcium citrate.
