hello all,

today is the day i start protein shakes! im not hungry in the least, and i dont even *want* them, but its one step closer to pureed food, which i mentally want so hard. my doctor has me waiting until the 25th (2 whole weeks on protein shakes) for those and i know i'll get sick of just the shakes.

i have eas vanilla carb control advantedge at the moment, but i'm going to try the chocolate fudge as well. any other suggestions? i have access to a walmart, walgreens, shoprite, cvs, vitaminshoppe, and probably some other chain stores (i'd prefer not to buy online when first tasting).

also, does anyone have any suggestions for this phase? like things to do that make the shakes taste better or something? or other things that are allowed?

sidenote: i slept on my stomach last night and i now know the meaning of true joy :')

Hi Effie. I was so happy to get shakes after surgery I could have danced a jig! I use Syntrax Matrix Perfect Chocolate powder, but I have recently been drinking the Premier Protein chocolate and strawberry. I got mine at Cotsco but I think Walmart carries the 4 pack, but they are a little more expensive. I also found some Torani sugar free syrups at Walmart and I added them to my shakes after surgery. Also, you could put some PB2 powdered peanut butter in them.

I found this on another site if you are a hot chocolate lover: I mix a packet of diet Swiss Miss hot cocoa powder and 1/2 to 1 scoop of chocolate or vanilla protein powder with 1/4 cup cold water. Then put a mug of water in the microwave for a couple minutes, take it out, and power the mixture into it. YUM! It makes the creamiest thickest hot diet cocoa I have ever tasted. I put peppermint flavoring in it sometimes. It is delicious! Good luck on your journey.

that hot cocoa sounds heavenly! thank you so much, i will definitely try that.

i've had premier protein cookies and creme in the past when i was losing weight (unsuccessfully... which is why i had the sleeve heh) and i didn't really like it much. is the chocolate any better if you've tasted both?

and the torani sounds like a great idea, wow glad i posted this, i'm going to try the cocoa and that as well.

I've not tried the Cookies & Cream flavor, but I LOVE the chocolate. It is not too sweet and I like that. I am not a real fan of the strawberry, taste more vanilla than strawberry. But since I bought a whole case of them, I am going to try and blend in some frozen strawberries and see if it tastes better.

Do you have access to a GNC? If so, you might want to give them a try as you can return protein poweders if you don't like them (even opened). While GNC is a bit more expensive than some of the other stores the ability to return opened powders made buying there worth the extra expense to me. I have returned open powedrs and had no problem with them.

My approach was to buy them initially from GNC and once I found a couple that I liked I shopped around for the retailer that has the best price.

My favorites are one by BPI sports in the Vanilla Caramel flavor and GNC also carries a brand called Cellucor that has several flavors. Good luck!

Nashua Nutrition is awesome because you can order lots of samples.  Much better than buying a large tub.
