Today is my birthday so my sister is taking me out eat at a mexican restaurant.  I am on phase 3 soft foods. Any suggestions how I can do this and act normal.  I know I can't stay holed up at home forever but I don't know how to live with my sleeve in the real world.   I am overwhelmed.

Sounds to soon to me for Mexican. But if that's where you go refried beans or ground meat with encillada sauce

I would get a rain check on the Mexican, but if you must REFRIED beans and shredded cheese with hot sauce and a little sour cream. Now I am hungry. ;)

This is probably too late....but eat really really slow! I eat in the real world all the time and that has been...and still is...by biggest hurdle!  Happy Birthday!

Thanks for all the suggestions and birthday wishes.  I survived.  I ordered from the childrens menu.  I listened to your suggestions and stuck with the refried beans and a cheese enchilada.   I enjoyed the conversation at the table and I took small bites.  I brought 90% of it home in a doggie bag and will have multiple meals from it this week.  This outing gave me courage and helped me realize that I can do this!!!

I am glad it worked for you today. Just want to throw this out there.plesse please don't get in the habit of ordering from the kids menu. 99% of the time there is nothing healthy on there for us. Order off the regular menu. Meat or seafood or poultry. Eat what you can and take the rest home.

Mexican is the one cuisine that sucks for me post-op.  Too many of the things I like involve tortillas and I don't want to eat stuff that isn't what I like so.. I end up just skipping mexican most of the time.

Refried beans and cheese are the way to go in soft foods.  Or the innards of a fish taco.
