Workout question - particularly interval and strength
I've started doing kettlebell swings. I have a hard time determining how to log my time. If I'm working out for 22 minutes but am swinging for a minute and resting for 30 secs or a minute between sets...do I only count the swing time or do I count the entire workout? I don't eat back exercise calories so it doesn't really matter a ton....but I'm still really curious as to technically what the minutes mean.
How do you log something like this?

In my opinion, you should log in the entire time you are interval training. Even though you are resting 30 seconds (or how ever long), it's all one set/session.
Also, I highly recommend wearing a heart rate monitor when you do any sort of exercise. They are fantastic and really give you a good read on how hard you are working. It's not difficult to figure our what your heart rate goals should be...there are a zillion web sites that can walk you through it.
Good luck!
You log the entire workout. With HIIT you are always going to have very brief "rest" intervals, don't concern yourself with them. The time of your workout is from when you start to when it ends.
I do kettlebell and I believe it's in MFP as "Kettlebell Routine". Just pick that and punch in the number of minutes you do.
Interesting, I have never logged my rest time, but now that I read it the way you guys are saying it makes sense to log it. I don't eat back my calories either. Actually I have started eating back some of the calories from running; I needed to get more carbs into my diet. I am at maintance though and have been for a year. On very low carbs I have severe cramps after running. I need the carbs to help maintain fluid; otherwise I dehydrate even though I get lots of water into me. It took me over a year to figure out the cause of the severe cramps that actually lock up my legs and feet so I can't stand or walk for several hours at a time.
I do intervals with running and I log the entire time. Resting is a part of working out :)

Isn't wonderful that we are all talking about exercise issues. Who would have ever thought only a few short years, months ago that this would be an issue we would need to discuss and discover what works for one another. On that note - this thread has absolutely made my day. Have a great one everybody!
