im on quite a few meds.. Two of them are capsules with beads. How do I take these post op? Can I swallow them? Do I have to crush them? Do I have to crush the non capsules too?

Thanks!

I take them orally.

Whole, not opened or crushed. Plenty of water to push them right through. Open, crushed, or too little water means they sit in your sleeve and can be irritating. They are absorbed in the intestine. Get them in there right away.

I had no issues swallowing pills normally post-op.  You might need to do them one at a time instead of a handful at once.

You can swallow them normally, but I would advise one at a time. 3 month out I still take them one at a time. My only chewable is Calcium citrate.

I swallowed all my pills like normal about 12 hours after my RNY.

For some reason, the nurse I had in the hospital mentioned crushing pills to me. But when I got home, I questioned this. Called the surgeon's office and was told that it isn't necessary to crush or cut pill.s Just take them! It just gets tricky when you need to have food on your stomach for the pill. I took a giant Mucinex pill last week, but waited the 30 minutes after eating when I could drink again, but this worked fine because the food was still enough so I wasn't nauseous.

Thanks everyone for all your advice!

im relieved I don't have to crush anything!

I'm on meds for depression and aniexty.. Because my stomach is going to be smaller.. Will I be absorbing differently? Would they have to change my dose?

I just had surgery on jan. 8th.  I had no problem just swallowing any of my meds.  I just take them as normal. :D

If you do it nice and slow, you should be able to take them.

Slowly and one at a time. I found immediately after surgery standing up helped get them out of my throat in down into the abyss. I have 1 that is huge, I cut that one but now can take it normally. I still do 1 at a time ;)
