I am having shoulder pain and a little bit of cramping. Also, i am still not hitting my numbers on the thing you blow in. My lungs are still pretty sensitive. I had my surgery this past weds and they also fixed my hiatal hernia. My question is has anyone else experienced this? If so how long did it last?

I also had a hiatal hernia repair when I had surgery so I know how you feel, it sucks.  The shoulder pain you're experiencing is gas.  Take gas-x and make sure you're walking.  It'll ease up and eventually go away after a few days or so..  As far as your breathing just keep at it.  Make sure you're using that blowing thingy every hour.

Thank you Amy. I was just worried because I read online it could be a leak. But I haven't done nothing to cause one so I was just hoping the pain in the shoulder was part of the process.

Never self diagnose!  I am always using google to self diagnose an unknown issue I'm having and it always causes paranoia.  I'll google something like "my foot hurts" and come up with results that make me think "OMG I HAVE CANCER."

If you feel like something is really very very wrong always call your surgeon or go to the ER.  Using google or even the advice of others on OH is not always something you can rely on for an accurate answer.

The shoulder pain is likely just gas from laparoscopy.  Walking as much as possible will help it to pass.

Try holding a pillow or something gently against your abdomen with your breathing into that thing or getting up or moving around.  It helped me feel like I was holding everything in.  I know it sounds silly but it definitely helps with the pain.  As for the shoulder pain it will only last a day maybe 2.

Agree with all of the above--i had surgery exactly a week before you. It gets better--hang in there! I am feeling much more human now than I was a week ago.

I had gas in my shoulder and I walked my backside off. It really helped! Keep walking, it should dissipate soon! Good luck to you!

The thing that worries me is the fact that I have had it since weds. So 3 days...I just hope it goes away soon. I don't want any complications with this surgery

I had surgery Monday, also with hiatal hernia repair. For a couple days after, it was difficult to take a full lung capacity breath, it felt like my muscles were very sore in my upper abdomen. My dr said it was normal, here at 5 days out I'm breathing perfectly.

how many leak tests does your dr do? Do you still have your drain in? That was horribly uncomfortable for me, felt like a new woman when it came out.
