Why Am I So Hungry? 3 Weeks Post Op

Is it normal for me to feel so hungry? I was sleeved on 1/12 and am now well into the pureed foods stage. I'm eating high protein soups blended up, some eggs and still drinking protein shakes.

It's not 'head' hunger, I have reall hunger pains in my stomach. Am I eating the wrong things? Or will I always be eating every 2 hours?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Are you taking a PPI?

Forgive me, but what is a PPI?

VSG on 11/19/14 with

Prilosec or omeprazole. The stomach acid can mimic hunger

PPI's are gastric acid reducers.

Hi, I can totally relate. I was sleeved on 1/5 and now eating mechanical soft foods. I eat my 3 meals and 3 snacks. I find that I have hunger pangs in my stomach a couple hours after I eat. Strong hunger pangs. I do take a PPI and it for sure is not head hunger. Usually head hunger for me is between my mouth (having a strong taste for something) and my head. A lot of times with head hunger my stomach feels full.

I have a follow up with my surgeon next Thursday so that will  be a question for him. I don't believe it's acid. I haven't experienced acid stomach like I used to before surgery.

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, I hope I can gain some insight after speaking with my surgeon.

You might need a stronger PPI than the one you're currently taking.  Right after surgery our stomachs are still producing the amount of acid they produced for our full sized stomachs, which is too much for our new teeny stomachs.

Are you taking a PPI such as prilosec or nexium?  At this point, you're most likely just experiencing stomach acid, which mimics hunger.  Ask your surgeon about a PPI and that should clear things right up.
