2 months post-op, hungry every 2 -3 hours?
My Dr's plan calls for only eating 3 meals a day with no snacking, but I have to assume that means when we are able to eat more in a sitting, b/c right now, I eat something, then I am hungry/shaky 2-3 hours later. I am still eating pretty small amounts , so do you think that's why Im not staying full longer? I eat an egg for breakfast then 1-1.5 oz fish for lunch then usually a SF pudding with protien powder in it, then a meat of some sort for dinner 1-1.5 oz.
My plan is different. 3 meals plus 2 snacks a day. I just looked back on myfitnesspal and I was eating 3-4 oz at my meals and 1 oz for snacks at 2 months. Two eggs for example typically weigh 3.5 oz. I lived on eggs early on. I used to scramble them with no milk. I also used to add mushrooms or salsa for a little flavor. Talk to your dr and see if you can up your quantity, it will help.
My program stressed three meals a day because they wanted us to establish this as a pattern for life. I was always hungry after 3 hours, too. Ironically, when I got to maintenance I had to add meals/snacks to get enough calories in to stop losing weight! So all that limiting of the meals was a little over-zealous.
I think you should look at your total calories and if you can add healthy snacks without jeopardizing your weight loss, then do it.
Best of luck,
Carol

I can't hold much over one 1-1.5 ounces right now, so I will probably have to add some extra snacks. Been struggling with getting protien in, been dealing with wicked nausea for past 2 weeks, that they are finally treating successfully. I feel like that has put me behind on my intake a little. Thanks
There's no way I could eat just 3 meals a day at 2 months post op. I could hardly eat much in one sitting and even drinking was still hard for me, so I had to rely on sugar free popsicles a lot.

My VSG was on 12/15/14 so we are about at the same place. My plan calls for 2-4 oz protein + 2 oz fruit or veg for breakfast, lunch & dinner. It also calls for an evening snack of SF yogurt and fruit. I can have one complex carb per day. And I can have a protein shake if needed to get my protein requirements. I have decaf coffee when I wake up and then I eat my meals at 9,12, 3 & 6. I have not had any problems with true hunger but I still battle the head hunger of wanting the old junk food that got me here in the first place. I always have water or decaf tea in hand to drink in between meals so I get my fluid in for the day. I hope this helps.

My surgeon also requires 3 meals a day with no snacks. (Which seems to be a rarity here.) At 2 months out, I wasn't able to get my protein in during those three meals, so I was having 3 solid meals plus 1 protein shake. Once I was able to eat 3-4 ounces at each meal reliably, I switched to 2 solid meals plus 1 shake.
I would suggest talking to your surgeon or nutritionist about this.

I would discuss with nutritionist, rather than just ask a nutritionist. Smaller more frequent meals are better for stabilizing blood sugars and insulin release. Three meals sounds rather archaic, but I understand the rationale of teaching food addicts to not graze and to have more structure with meal times. I eat more than three meals sometimes. Usually very small amounts (I'm a December vsg'er too). Liquids are so much more comfortable and satisfying while at work- not to mention convenient, so sometimes I'm working on a cup of coffee, protein shake and bowl of soup all work-day long. I would do what is easiest for you as long as you're not eating junk, bad carbs, or too many calories. get your protein in too, not only for the many reasons everyone always mentions, but also in my experience, when consuming more than normal amounts of protein, I usually have a bigger weight loss that week. :)
I had surgery in 2012, and since about 6 mos out I have been either stuffed or starving all the time. I get really hungry every two hours. Prilosec had no affect (some people say its not hunger its acid). Still struggling with it to this day. Trying to make better choices when I do eat, it gets very easy to graze on bad things like crackers, chips etc as time goes by. Best wishes to you.
