Broth

Can anyone tell me why you cannot have broth while on the shake phase of the journey.  I don't mean the commercial sodium laden broth, I mean a homemade broth without fat and salt?  The shakes are certainly sweet, sweet, sweet.  Any suggestions??

I was allowed to have broth pre- and post-op. I try to limit the sodium because of its water-retention properties, but once in a while, you just have to have something a little salty after all that sweet. Between the occasional cup of broth and crunchy sugar-free popsicles, my salt-and-crunchy itch gets scratched.
