So my husband has 3 weeks left of vacation this year. Luckily he will be able to help me lift my twins while I heal.

He has to tell his boss something why he has to take all this time off.. I don't want them in my business knowing but at the same time he's friendly (And I as well) with his boss and coworkers. What would be something to tell them?

My advice is to be open about it. Both my wife and I hid ours at first but it's a lot easier once it's out in the open. If that's not really an option then I would keep it vague like "extended family time".

Tell him the truth. He has stuff to do around the house. That is the truth. It isn't all the truth, but he isn't entitled to know everything in your life. If you want to open up later, that's fine, but you do not owe everyone an explanation.

If you are on friendly terms your diet changes are bound to come up .. so you might as well tell them. Its not like your current weight is a secret or that your upcoming weigh losses will be hidden.

If you fall down you just have to get back up.

On second thought ... I shouldn't just brush off your desire to keep your surgery hushed up. Its not my life. So what to tell them? How about just saying that he wants to spend time some quality time with his children while they are young and give you a bit of a break.

If you fall down you just have to get back up.

I had some co-workers who I was brutally honest with and others I simply stated that I was going for abdominal surgery (which I was). If they are taking out your gall bladder, then that is another common response (or if they are going to look for and/or fix a hiatel (sp?) hernia). Some of my previous co-workers were not the nicest people in the world (and that is being very generous) so I didn't want them all up in my business either.

He can just tell them his wife is having surgery and needs help. If they ask what kind of surgery, he can say it's abdominal, or she prefers her privacy. No other explanation is necessary.

I told people at work whom I didn't want to know that I was having several hernias repaired. When I had my lapband in 2003 I told everyone. This time I just told family and a few close friends.

The phrase "minor medical procedure" is general enough for him to be honest with his coworkers, but not give any further details. Or say "she's having surgery, but it's no big deal, she'll be fine" without going into specifics. For all they know, you're getting your tonsils out or your knee replaced!

I told people who asked that it was abdominal surgery. Only told family and a few friends what is really was. Now that I am losing weight, people ask how I am doing it. I just say "a maximum of 800 calories and 25 grams of carbs a day."
