Stall out

VSG on 09/18/17

Hi everyone,

I had a VSG on 9/18/2017. I have followed the instructions with dieting and exercising. I track everything in the app Barastic. For the past three weeks, I have stalled in weight loss. I called the doctor who said to increase my calories from 800 to 1000 and try to get closer to the goal of 124 grams of protein a day with only 25 grams of carbs. I have been doing that for a week and nothing. It is incredibly frustrating to do something as drastic to my body as surgery and have this big of a stall so early on. I have had BC inserted in my arm to insure that I do not get pregnant through this process. I don't know if that may have been impacted.

I am looking for encouragement, suggestions, or direction. Thanks in advance.

StAlls are totally normal. Stick to 60-80g of protein, 600-800 calories a day, and over 64 ounces of calorie free liquid a day. You'll get there With your goal :)

At 2 months out, 1000 calories is too many for the overwhelming majority of us. Many people maintain on 1000-1200. Personally, I would cut back to 800 until your reach your goal.

I would ask your surgeon his success rate. With his plan I'd be willing to bet he is happy if his patients lose 50% of their excess weight. That would not be enough for me.

I am going through the same thing! I had surgery 9/19 and I only lost 6lbs in 3 weeks.

Everyone will tell you that it gets better! Your body is still recovering and pretty much says "wtf did you do to me".

I was told multiple times to put the scale away for a month and do measurements once a month.

I'm 4 months post op and without fail I stall every 3 weeks. the first two times it drove me crazy, now it's a case of "here we go again". Take your measurements every couple of weeks, as these will be a far better tracking tool and easier on the nerves.

Try on new clothes!

You will encounter stalls several times over the next year as you're losing. I found during these times that I had lost a size or three, so I made them happy times as a trigger for shopping to replace my wardrobe (again).

Thank you everyone for the advice. I know that it is mostly a mental game. I won't get discouraged.

1000 calories is maintenance for many of us. We are different than non morbidly obese ppl but surgeons and nuts try to treat us the same .

I would gain on 1000 cal even now at nearly 8 years out.

I suggest you keep calories between 700-800 and carbs as low as possible during the losing phase.

That means eating mostly protein and vet little low carb vegetables. Things like beef, chicken, pork, fish, eggs, peppers cucumbers Greek yogurt, etc.

what does a days menu look like for you? Are you getting 64 plus ounces of sf liquid a day?
