Poop question...GRAPHIC...you've been warned.

I think that I was one of the unlucky folks here who may have been hit with the salmonella bug from the PB.  But now I have a couple of questions about poop.  WARNING: Stop reading now if you are squimish. I have had a lot of loose diarhea type stools over the last 2 months and they have all followed instances of me eating said peanut butter to raise my levels from a hypoglycemic episode ( I eat a spoonful of PB).  And within 5 minutes I was over the toilet having an explosive extremely soft brown bowel movement  and the worst stomach cramps one could imagine (when they say full of it they should have had a pic of me there...lol).  And every meal that day had the same affect.  Of course this has gone on for the 2 months during my move so I didn't attribute the PB into the equation until last week.  I had a scoop and the same thing happened, but when I didn't eat any for a few days I was fine. Fast forward to this week....I haven't had any PB and now my stools are this bright green with pieces of green running through it.  I would normally say it's from the veggies...but I haven't had any veggies in the last week and a half...been having issues with them so I gave them a little break (yeah I know I need them but I have been drinking veggie juice in place of them).  So my question is this:  What is causing my stools to be bright green?  Could it be from my body cleaning out all the stuff from the PB?  I know that I should see a dr. but we are changing insurances now and the process has already begun with them terming out our old insurance so I will have to wait.   Any ideas would be helpful.  And yes I do have some Kaopectate just in case.  Take care. I love google. lol   Here is what I found...

If you have the occasional green stool—don't panic! Most likely it is normal, and there is a perfectly reasonable explanation. Think about the foods you ate, any vitamins or supplements you took—even if they're not green in color.

There can be many reasons why stool appears to be green. The first and most obvious reason is eating green foods. Green, leafy vegetables contain chlorophyll which could be coloring the stool green. Foods with dark purple coloring like Kool-Aid, popsicles, and gelatin (Jell-O) can also result in rainbow-colored stools. Iron supplements or even foods that are rich in iron can also give stool a green tinge.

Stool can also appear green for physical reasons, and not just from what you've been eating. We think of a healthy stool as being brown. Bile that is secreted in the first part of the small intestine is actually green. As stool is digested and passed through the large intestine it is turned into a darker brown color.

If stool is still green by the time it is excreted, it could mean that it went through the large intestine too fast to be changed in color. This is often called "rapid transit" or "decreased colonic transit time" and diarrhea that is green in color could be the result.

In breast-fed babies, green stool is a normal occurrence, especially right after delivery. In older children, the reason could be food-related as described above, or even from non-food items. Eating or sucking on colored non-food items such as crayons might also turn stools different colors.

If green stool continues, or your bowel habits have changed in other ways, you may want to call your doctor. This is especially true if you are experiencing diarrhea which can be an indication of other problems or could lead to dehydration.

You know what.....I feel like an idiot.  I did change over to the grape walmart crystal light recently.  I have been drinking it along with the apple ones.  I didn't think about that.  Thanks for the answer.  Take care. Moni

I have been drinking grape WalMart crystal light for some time and can tell you it is definitely the culprit but I am hooked on it. Someone did say there is a clear type of it available at a competitor but I have not been concerned enough to explore that option. I think it is Target. Sorry you were plagued with the PB problem for so long. I did not choose those brands...only found Skippy here. I keep fearing Skippy will have the next issue....no, no not my Skippy.

I am sooo hooked on that stuff....it is sooooo good.  I will take a little green poop to get my water in this good.  Been drinking 80+ oz. of water since I started drinking that.  Tastes just like grape koolaid.   I'm a little scared of the PB now...but I know it will pass.  I will have to look for the skippy next.  Take care and thanks for the warm and fuzzies. Moni

In addition to what the other poster said, it's possible that if you are drinking any grape flavored drinks like grape koolaid, it will turn your stools green also.

Moni, Having used blue food coloring for tube feedings (I'm a nurse), the poop always came out green.  I also remember eating blue sno-balls as a kid and it coming out green.  To this day, I can't use that green ketchup, it reminds me of things I have found under patients!  Oh, and yep, being the smart-a** I am, I did use green for the post.  HeeHee!  Hope it made you laugh.  Hugs coming your way!!!!  Oh, and keep up the fluids, you don't want to end up dehydrated.
