I had one about a week post-op.  Only thing the surgeon said was to let it do it's thing.  And it drained... a LOT.  Annoying indeed, but no pain or issues with it. Good luck!

It's a pocket of fluid that builds up under an incision, which usually causes the incision to open up a little (it did with mine) and drain the fluid.  For me, it drained for over a week and in massive amounts.  A big pain! Hope this helps!

I did not experience this with my gastric bypass but last year I had hip replacement and about a month later experienced what my surgeon called a fluid pocket.  I was coming home from rehab and suddenly was all wet.  I had to be readmitted to the hospital, go back to surgery, remove all the staples, have the wound opened and cleaned, stitched and two drain tubes were inserted with "bumpers" to stretch the skin so fluid would not fill back up.  Not a pleasant situation.  I was told that this could happen with any wound where fat was involved, as fat does not adhere to fat and leaves a "pocket" for fluid to fill.  The infection control doctor said it happened to her after her Ceasarean. Took about a month to heal with another ten days in the hospital and two weeks with the sutures and "bumpers". Good luck

When I had my gall bladder removed laproscopically (sp?) I had this happen, and it drained for 4 weeks!  I thought I'd never stop bleeding (it was red like blood).  I went back to my surgeon (not my WLS surgeon, a different guy did the gall bladder) and he kept saying it was alright, that it was a "pocket" and it would stop draining soon...  I don't know if it was a "seroma" but it sounds like the same thing...

Dear Patty,   Dont fret.. seromas are quite common. I had one about 10 days post op from my second revision.. woke up with a soaked gown one morning.. no big deal.. this was on a Sat morning.. saw the surgeon on Monday.. he said to let it drain, and actually had me take some q tip things.. longer than a qtip.. not sure what they are called, and poke in the opening to allow it to drain better.. eventually, he opened it a bit more in his office for the fluid to drain and the wound to heal.. this was after open surgery..  Take it one day at a time, one step at a time.. it will all work out..
peachy hugs,
