Hi all! You all have helped me in the past. Well I need some more help. I was wondering if any one know how much weight can edema add the your weight. I've been doing good on eating and getting out more. I know it's not that but the scale still say I gained weight. It makes me sad. I'm not downing myself this time because I know it's not me. If some one can help I would like that. Thank you.

If it's TOM water weight then it can be alot (at least for me) I've been know to put on 7 pounds especially if it's hot and humid.  If it's just from eating something salty then it usually only a few pounds.

Have you had your surgery????

It can add a lot.  I retain water and am on water pills even after loosing 100 pounds can you believe that.  When I was not on them I was gaining an average of 7-10 pounds over night depending on how much salt that I ate.  Now that I had the surgery I am trying not to eat as much but sometimes I crave salty foods.

do you have any underlying conditions like kidney disease?

An old saying in health care is "a pint's a pound the world around" meaning one pint of water adds about a pound of body weight.

During hormonal fluctuations I can easily add 6-20 lbs of water.  I kid you not.  I have cankles and I often say I could relieve the drought down here if they could find a way to safely "drain" me.  Pretty picture to imagine at lunch, isn't it?

Hi there I just want you to know that you are right it probably is not you. When i was on my six month diet i was gaining 5 to 10 lbs a month for six months. I was horrified, I had very bad edma. I gained a ton of weight I have a lung disease which caused it. But i am three months out from surgery and i am now down 75lbs and they think alot of that was water weight/edma. I hope this helps.Dont give up. Ask your PCP about maybe some water pills.

If it's your basic fluid retention due to heat, Mother Nature etc.? Several pounds.

If it's edema symptomatic of a medical problem? Unlimited amounts.

How far out from surgery are you?

The scale is a lousy indicator of real progress, because it doesn't differentiate among fluid, fat, muscle. Please, divorce your sense of self from those lying scale numbers. It'll just make you crazy otherwise.

Are you sure you have just edema and not something else going on?

I was told once that the body can hold, on average, up to 15 pounds of water weight. Of course, that's extreme, but it happens. You'll recognize it if your fingers feel stiff and puffy.

When I've retained water my DH calls me a puffa-lump. lol

I stopped my diuretic after surgery because I was having trouble getting in enough water as it was.  When I started back on the diuretic (at my surgeon's suggestion because my feet were swelling so badly) I lost 7 pounds over the weekend.
