The problem is I LOVE them  lately and crave them until I finish a whole sleeve (throughout the day)! Aunt Flo and Uncle Tom , BOTH came to visit me and are wrecking my whole system. It is making me crazy!!!!!!!!! While I know it could be worse, like oreo's, the idea that I can't control it bugs me. What happens when it is OREOS, I don't want to have to gain any weight to snap me into doing something...I guess all my rambling comes down to this question....How does everyone cope with cravings like this and does any one else get them this bad at their time of the month!?

relax it happens to all of us, i love saltines also just remember moderation is the key.  Oreos can't happen if you don't bring them home, that is my motto i try not to bring the tempting stuff home and when someone else does i try to hide them from myself so they are outta sight and off my mind. good luck

I have cravings for spaghetti sometimes that is pure killer.  I will usually just a have a very small amount and that will cure my craving for a long time usually.  Be very careful with the crackers, sounds like you are grazing throught the day and that can be very dangerous, you will a lot more calories than you realize.  I NEVER keep anything around I can graze on especially at work, to tempting.  I keep my protein bars on hand and that is it.

Good luck!!

I too love saltines and know where you're coming from.  Unfortunately, I don't have Aunt Flo as an excuse any more (I'm 58 years old), so just have to remind myself that I don't want to get fat again.  So the obvious response is don't buy them in the first place.  If they trigger binge eating in you then avoid them.  If you can eat a few and get satisfied, then go to a restaurant where they include them when you order soup or salad (Chick-fil-A is one I really like), order the soup or salad, eat the soup or salad first (protein before anything else), then if you aren't entirely full by that time eat only the packages that they give you and no more. If you can't eat them take  'em home with you and save them for a snack.  Beats buying (and eating) a whole box.   Maybe limiting yourself to just these is one way to take care of the craving without having to resort to eating an entire sleeve.

Having said that, I also know that it is much easier said than done.

Good luck.

Over the past few weeks I've noticed that I've been eating too many crackers.  I have to keep them out of the house for a while.  It's one of my weaknesses and I don't want to be tempted by some stupid silly little cracker....I am stronger then the cracker and I WILL WIN!!

Saltines are really really high in calories, salt and are entirely the bad kind of carbohydrates. My advice is to keep them out of the house. One sleeve of crackers is probably more calories than you should be eating in full day and that's without eating any other food at all. They are a trigger food for me. I don't keep them anywhere near me. They also will cause a lot of cravings and you'll just want more and more. I can't have crackers at all because I just want more and more. This is how I stopped myself.

One cracker is 13 calories and 2.13 grams of carbohydrates (the bad kind). There are 72 crackers in a full sleeve.

So, you are having:

936 empty calories (more than you should eat without anything else in a full day)

153.36 grams of carbs (my doctor recommends 25 a day - so this is 125 over recommendation).

Sodium is about 3,316 mg. which could stop your weight loss entirely.

As soon as I realized what I was doing with saltines, I completely stopped and don't go near them now. I think sometimes we think of crackers as okay - better than other things, but they aren't necessarily. It's also completely empty calories - almost no protein. There is also sugar, nothing at all that is good for you and a lot of preservatives. I soaked a box once and after that never bought them again.

Thanks for all of your replys! I haven't had them in the house until now since the surgery and wasn't sure how I'd act with them. So now I can say for sure I will keep them out of the house. I do keep all crappy stuff out , but with the three kids home for the summer, there have been some snacks I normally wouldn't have around. I never thought that maybe they could just be a trigger food and it isn't "Aunt Flo".........Thanks again guys U R GREAT!!!!

I sure understand! They were a total trigger for me. I don't have Aunt Flo anymore (ha ha!). It's the carbs. That's what makes the craving.

My friend (littlefroggee on this site) had her RNY a week or so before you and she mentioned craving saltines also! Maybe it's the salt/carb combo??? I told her there are mini saltines, they come in a box, don't know if that would make a difference. Like you said, at least it's not oreos.

Aunt Flo is visiting me right now--and I feel like murdering the world and every liquid protein man has ever created! (I'm still on full liquids for another week). I barely ate(drank) anything today because I just can't swallow another liquid protein! ....anyways...back to cravings...I just don't bring the thing into my home. If I'm craving it and going "I'll just drive up to the store and get some!" then I eat something that's a healthy treat and distract myself. Hobbies are helpful. Walking is my favorite! Sewing! Right now my favorite hobby is going through my clothes and getting rid of the ones that are getting too big! It's lots of fun and motivating!

By the way--who is Uncle Tom? I haven't met him yet.
