Saturday I started my Opifast diet and I still feel hungry. I look at the clock to see if it is time for a shake again. I did buy the tomato soap and the bars. I been drinking alot of water and thank God the bathroom is right there, I feel that I can be flushed away from all that pee-ing. I need to know if the only think I can have is water? Can I have herbal tea's or such. Please help I have to been on the for total of 14 days and I really don't know how I can going to do this. Any suggests.

I noted your future surgery date od 3-23. Most surgeons require some type of wt loss attempt that last 3-4 wks prior to surgey. This is to help remove any fatty liver deposits. Fatty liver deposits make it difficult for the surgeon to do the LAP RNY procedure. I had RNY almost 3 years ago. I went in for a LAP procedure, but had to sign a "waiver" stating I was in surgery for the LAP RNY, but "if situations warrented, I gave authorization for the OPEN RNY". One of these situations would be a fatty liver. I made an attempt to lose wt myself, losing 17 pounds or so the last 3 weeks prior to surgery. My surgeon has a rule, "gain any more wt, and surgery will be postponed".  I know one woman in my support group who failed to lose wt, and her surgery was delayed 2 months. 14 days is a "drop in the bucket" compared to the rest of your life. Your new lifestyle will eliminate a number of foods--those that caused wt gain to begin with. DAVE

You should be able to drink any non-caloric liquid. You can also use Da Vinci type calorie free flavoring agents to add to your shakes to vary the flavor.

Starting a liquid diet is hard but when you've been on it a short while you'll find the hunger goes away. Keep your goal upper most in your mind - you are preparing for life changing surgery.

I'm not your nut, and I suggest you talk to your nut on Monday but I will tell you what I could have besides the shakes:

Up to 2 cups of broth a day
SF Popsicles
Non calorie clear liquids. (Crystal Lite, Kool-aide made with splenda, etc)

I'm not sure about the tea, as I know some teas can thin your blood and that could lead to complications.

Did they give you paperwork on what you could and couldn't have?  Or did they just say have X number of Opifast a day?

My surgeon gave me a large binder with all the info I needed.

I started my optifast on 3/12/09 and my surgery is schedule for 3/20/09...... I was told only clear liquids only until surgery.
I'm having the same problems...... I can suggest it to eat sf jello sf popsicles and make a chicken soup from scratch buy 1/2 a chicken, throw a potatoe, throw some carrots, fresh garlic, 1/2 onion.... all these ingridients are to give the chicken broth flavor... get a lime and serve it. It tastes so good.... I just had a cup and my shake is in 2 hrs so I'm kinda full. Its hard but think positive and walk keep yourself and mind busy..... I wish you the best of luck.

2 weeks will be a walk in the park as compared to the 6 weeks I had to be on it. Don't worry, you'll get through it, though it will be tough. My surgeons office ran out of bars once while I was on it, and my nutritionist said that I could have 1 cup of fresh veggies to munch on (carrots, celery, mushrooms, green pepper).  Good Luck!

Don't worry, it does get easier as the time goes on. If I can do it, anyone could...lol...I had to do Optifast for 2 months!!   I did the shakes, bars, and soups....which wasn't too bad.  Ask your nut if you can have any other kind of liquid.....but I was. I even drank a Diet Rite here and there. I also did Crystal Lite and sugar free popsicles.  I wanted sf fudgesicles but was told no...lol    You can do this, keep strong and think of the end results  :)

I am also on a liquid diet for two weeks.  I am on day ten.  It does get better.  Make sure you are not drinking water for 1/2 hour befor and after your shakes.  This will cause the shake to move through your tummy too fast and you will get hungery sooner.  Good luck with your sugery.
