How do I puree canned tuna?

I'm  10 days post op and on my second week of pureed foods.  I'd love to have some tuna, but last week when I pureed it, even with chicken broth, it turned out like sand.    I drained the water from the can before I pureed it.  Was that the problem?  any suggestions would be very helpful.

I don't think it is possible to puree tuna-sounds vile! I would just ma**** really fine with a fork after draining it, and mix it with a lot of mayo and eat it that way. It would be pretty much pureed anyway then.

Yep, I'd just use a fork and mix it with a little light mayo and SF sweet pickle juice.  It helps it 'slide' down.   Just try a bite or two at a time till you know how it's going to sit.  This is the time that you're eating so little, you can eat more often and not worry about calories, etc.  What I did because I was journaling my food to track my protein, I just measured out 1/4 cup and made mini meals out of it for the day.  That made it easier to know how much I was really getting instead of trying to break down a tablespoon of  "X"  food for lunch, etc.

Tuna comes in two different cuts in cans, solid and chunk.  Buy the chunk, packed in water.  Use a potato masher or a large kitchen knife on the drained tuna.  Mix with light mayo or light ranch dressing and whatever seasonings you like.

I think the problems is you pureed it too much.

During the puree phase, I personally found that hummus and the like were better choices and a lot less work.

I use to work in a kitchen at a nursing home and for our residents, that ate pureed diet,  we would add a little milk, a little tuna juice, & pickle relish. Blend it!!

Thanks for all the advice, everyone.      Tonight, I took a can of salmon, carefully removed all the bones and skin and mashed the salmon with about 4 tsp of low fat mayo.  It was WONDERFUL!!!  I was getting so sick and tired of having different forms of dairy as a pureed protein.    I'll be doing this same thing with tuna in a few days.    Again, can't thank you all enough for your great advice.

I put it in a food processor until it was finely ground and then mixed with lo fat mayo.  I did the same thing with chicken and egg.
