Still too fat for roller coasters?

One of the things I looked forward to once losing weight was roller coasters. I haven't really been on one in over 15 years except for the one or two at Disney that I could fit on in my 300's. We are going to Kings Dominion next week and I am petrified that I am still too fat and that I am going to be embarassed and embarass my family even after losing almost 130 lbs.  I have scoured the internet for weight guidelines and most are saying if you weigh more than 250 or have a waist larger than 45, you are too fat. I fit right in there. I weigh around 250-255 and ofcourse with the excess skin my waist is larger than it would be if I didn't have the skin. I wear 22's comfortable and could probably wear 18's/20's if it wasn't for the stomach skin. So should I save myself the embarassment and just sit it out, like always?

It's a hard question, isn't it?  I couldn't fit on most rides at King's Island (Cincinnati) as a 24, so it's true that you're probably in borderline territory.  I would search for King's Dominion + obesity or "Can I fit?" and see what other people say about how size-friendly the rides are.  BigFatBlog.com may be a resource for this too, I dunno.  If you can find info, start on the size-friendly rides and then move your way to the ones that may pose a challenge.

Also, a lot of these parks have sample seats that you can try out before you actually get in the official line.  If KD has this, you'll know ahead of time if you can fit.  My gut tells me that you'll be uncomfortable there, but you WILL fit into these seats - especially for the newer rides.

My experience that is 250 pounds is about the limit but of course it depends on whether or not the seat belts will work. I love Busch Gardens and am dying to go back. They have a seat outside the rides for people to see first if they will fit before the get in line for the rides. I've never been to Kings Dominion but maybe they will have something similar so that you won't be embarrassed if it doesn't work out.

Good luck and have fun.

I found this on their web site.

HEIGHT & WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The primary consideration on our coasters is that the restraint system has to properly lock and be secure in order for someone to ride.  All passenger restraint systems, including lap bars, shoulder harnesses, and seatbelts must be positioned and fastened properly to allow a guest to ride.

Due to rider restraint requirements, guests of exceptional size may not be accommodated on some of our rides. This may apply, but not be limited to guests who exceed 76" in height, those who exceed 250 pounds, have a 46" waistline, or 54" chest. There are some rides with weight restrictions - Zoom Flume (approximately 250 lbs), Tornado (approximately 175 lbs), Pipeline Peak (300 lbs), and Surf City Splash House slides (300 lbs). Larger guests may experience difficulty on Anaconda, Backlot Stunt Coaster, Crypt, Dominator, Drop Tower, Flight of Fear, Grizzly, Hurler, Flying Ace, Rebel Yell, Ricochet, Ghoster Coaster, Shockwave, Taxi Jam, and Volcano.

At some rides (Intimidator 305, Drop Tower, Crypt, & Dominator) we have a test seat out front where you can see if the restraint will buckle and know whether you can ride or not.  At other rides, you can walk up the exit and have the operators allow you to test a seat to ensure that the restraints can function properly before deciding to wait in line.

If you are in doubt about your ability to safely experience a ride or would like more rider information, please request our Rider Safety Guide at Guest Services. A representative from Rides will be happy to brief you on our Ride Admission policy here at the Park and explain how it applies to your specific situation. We hope we can help you enjoy your day more fully.

I have never ridden a roller coaster and although I will probably get as sick as a dog, I can't wait until I can go for the first time!
