Pain from real lemonade...any thoughts?
Hi OH Friends!
Today I had some fresh squeezed diet lemonade from Chick-Fil-A....yum...I usually love it! However, today it caused me agony! Now, for background, I had not eaten anything...just had my usual morning protein shake. Normally I have eaten something when I had lemonade. It only took a couple of drinks and I had agonizing pain in my stomach and below! I waited a couple of minutes and tried again...same thing...pain! It lasted around thirty minutes and I kept drinking some water to try and dilute the lemonade. Do you all think it was just too acidic? I have had it several times and never had any pain. My worry was an ulcer. I have had no other pain or nausea. Thanks for your input! I don't want to experience that ever again! Connie

I definitely think it is the acid. Lemonaide is extremely acidy. The other poster suggested that it might not have been diet but that wouldnt' change the acid factor, it would just change the sugar content and you didnt' dump. If you ever drink it again, get some Pepcid AC chewables and eat 2 of them immediately before drinking. I do that before eating strawberries and it works.
They have fresh real lemonade there? Made with what as a sweetener? I drink lemon water every day, sometimes with plain wea****d tea but generally alone and never once had a problem. I do however have problems with fake lemonade sweetened with sugar or splenda, is it possible it was full sugar? I drink atleast two lemons worth of juice everyday and have for quite some time with no ill effects. Lemon is a natural diuretic and only about 12 calories in a whole lemon, can't beat that with a bat.

Hi Heidi!
Yes, it is real, fresh squeezed lemonade with pulp and everything. I don't know what they sweeten with but it has never bothered me before. I'm not sure it was or wasn't sugar but I didn't dump, it was a sharp, cramping, horrible pain! All the waydown into my gut! OUCH!! It was almost like the worst cramping from diarrhea. I was actually bent over some as I was driving..my hands were shaking from pain and I pulled over at a gas station for a minute to catch my breath. I started drinking water to maybe dilute and it even hurt a little but it could have been the initial pain too...who knows. Everything has been fine since. I kept thinking ulcer starting? I've had no other issues. Maybe I was just too empty. Thanks!!! Connie

I don't have dumping in the traditional meaning, but I do get the cramping pain and shaking if I have anything with sugar. I also may pass out/faint or throw up. It could be that, but the best thing is to go see your doctor if it happens again with any other foods to know if it's an ulcer.
I'm definitely going to try the lemonade at CF next time I go. I normally don't order drinks when I'm out so I never noticed.
