Freezing Yogurt

Has anyone tryed it?

My hubby was shopping for me the other day and picked up these smoothie frozen packs that had yogurt in them.  He was being sweet but what he didn't realize was that they had a bunch of sugar in them and nearly no protein for beging a yogurt product.

But it did get me thinking, can I freeze my chobani in to little cubes to use in my shakes?  Has anyone experimented?  I'm wondering if certain brands freeze better than others and if you used just a regular ice cube tray?

Thanks

I freeze mine and eat it like ice cream sometimes and it seems to work just fine.  Trix yogurt now comes with sticks that you put in the middle and freeze them for kids to eat like an ice cream bar.  I wouldn't go near that stuff, though, if you're worried about sugar.  Chiobani has lots of sugar in it too, fyi.

Yogurt does have natural sugar in it.  Try using plain yogurts and creating your own flavors with fruit or SF Jelly, etc.  You can keep the protein high and refined sugars lower.

Thanks that is a good idea.  I was gonna do that last shopping trip, but I had already been through the fruit aisle and never thought of SF jellys.  I have lots of SF jelly available.  I love 4-6 oz of yogurt in the am.  Again thanks

Thanks.

I should have said it had HIgh Fructose Corn syrup and added sugar.  I am able to handle about 25g of Nautral sugars (fruit, milk, honey).  But if it's the man made or refined I'm only able to do about 10g without getting a wicked tummy ache.  It's a balance because sugar alcohols, used in the SF products, do the same thing also.

The Kroger Carbmaster yogurt does NOT freeze well- or should I say thaw well.  I put some near the air blower in my refrigerator and it froze.  After it thaws, the texture is horrible.  I had to throw it away.  It might be ok frozen and blended - didn't try that.  I should have thought about it.

Years ago I used to make a pie - one container of coolwhip mixed with one carton, any flavor  yogurt poured into a graham cracker crust.  It was great!

Try adding a little guar gum to plain yogurt (with your flavorings) because it will help stop ice crystals from forming making it more creamy.

I freeze yogurt for my daughter all the time in popsicle plastic trays that I bought at the dollar store. I recently put my Dannon diabetic yogurt in them to make us yogurt-sicles and they are delicious. I would not defrost the yogurt though, eat it frozen and yummy.

I freeze my Protein Shakes so they are like fudge pops.  I eat the Proti brand.  They have 15 grams of protein in each packet.  They definitely help me reach my daily protein goal.
