Recovery for Sleeve
I was recently approved for Lap band, but after much research I have changed to the sleeve.
I am just waiting to my insurance to approve.
My only concern is the recovery, I have never had surgery and only been the hospital when I gave birth to my children.
Can anyone tell about their recovery (how long before you were back to everyday activities) from the sleeve experience, and please be as honest as possible
Everyone is different, but my recovery was a very easy. I went to a state fair with my family on the day I came home from the hospital because I felt up to it. I walked around and drank my protein shakes and had a great time. The following day, I went for a three mile easy walk. Again, no problem. I went back to work in about one week and all was well. Others seem to need a bit longer to recover, I really think things went so well because I was in good health to begin with, I shrank my liver by going on a two week liquid diet, and I had a great surgeon. Good luck with your surgery.
Each patient is different, and so will the recovery process. Assuming you have no complications (remember this is major surgery, even a LAP procedure), there are still issues. How compliant can you be with the surgery post op protocol? Fatigue, constipation, troubles taking supplements, troubles tolerating the protein shakes, troubles drinking fluilds, etc. all make things more complex for some patients. If you have small children, surgeons typically have a 15 pound wt lifting restriction for the first 3 weeks post op. You may feel very fatigued and find it necessary to take a nap during the day. By all means, get someone to be with you for support and assistance if you need it for the first couple of weeks post op. If your job is not too physical, and you don't seem to have fatigue issues, then you could likely return in a couple of weeks. Many members of my post op groups listen attentively to other post ops relate their experiences. On this basis, many of them opt to take the 4 weeks off work our surgeon authorizes. This way, the new post op is feeling much better, better versed on eating and drinking. Whether it's a sleeve, RNY or other wt loss surgeries, some will have recovery issues. There are no 2 patients that are identical in the recovery process. DAVE

I went in on Wednesday morning and left the hospital Friday afternoon. I took one week off of work. On the second week, I returned to work but left after about six hours the first 3 days because I was a little tired ( and a little dehydrated I think ) but after that I was slowly able to increase my fluids and I felt fine. I am 4 weeks out and my energy level is back to normal.
