I'm going to be on 5 for food, which means back to normal eating and I'm a bit scared. I don't even know where to start, guess I just have to experience? At this point I'm pretty much a chilli, soup kinda gal. Have way too many things get stuck.

Can you guys recommend stuff to get if say I'm at the mall and pretty much only have fast food to choose from? And also regular restaurants?

I was thinking something like eggplant if I'm at a regular restaurant. Please give me some ideas, I'm a little scared.

I'm sorry to pee on your parade, but you want to avoid fast food at all costs.  When you committed to this surgery, you committed to a new you.  The new you eats smart, not conveniently.  Bring snacks with you, like cheese sticks or almonds.  If you truly can't resist fast food, eat pinto's and cheese from taco bell.

Sorry to **** on yours, but life happens after surgery. Fast food happens, going to dinner happens, birthday, BBQ and more. You have alot to learn. My husband is 9 months out and 150 pounds down, I know what I'm doing through him but just saying I'm scared to try new things. And guess what?! My husbands eats everything(minus sugar) and goes to the gym, and eats small and feels great.

So how about just eating the same thing your husband is eating....and when you guys go out, just share...

Try anything you feel like you'd like....but as you already know from your husband, try it at home first, just in case it gives you trouble.

Good luck with all the new stuff....

what do you mean "on 5 for food"??

I would say post this question on your surgeon forum, things are somewhat different among the surgeries.  OK, I just looked at your info but have already forgotten how far out your are. if immediately post-op, follow your surgeon's rules.  other than that, are you tracking things like protein, fluids, calories, carbs?  because most do.

other than that, start slow with any new food and just try to eat healthy and SLOW. you get eggplant, go slow,

for fast food I have had a little of everything but have frequently taken only a bite or two and thrown it away.

long term, you would be wise to get used to planning ahead so you have healthy options packed and with you!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Sorry I meant I'm on week 5 of foods, which to my surgeon means I'm back to regular food now. I will be a month out on Wednesday.

hmm,  for sure post on the Rny forum so your get a lot of answers from people who have a pouch.

just get your protein in first, probably that's all that you may have room for at first. and go slow.

What does your doctor want you eating at week 5 (?) or stage 5 (?). I'm not sure what 5 is in your post. For most of us we progress from liquids to pureed to soft foods and then go to regular foods from there. If you haven't progressed to that stage yet, then take it slowly and work your way to regular foods. Remember soft, easily digestible foods are best with protein being the main focus. If you're getting things stuck, you're eating too fast or too big of bites. Slow down - each meal should be 30 minutes (even at the beginning) It's great training. If you have only had chili or soup then take it slowly - start with soft cooked foods - eggs, mashed potatoes with melted cheese, refried beans with cheese, stews with soft meats and veggies. Eat only one new food at a time to see if you tolerate it. then move on to the next thing. check in your literature you got from your doc as to what foods are for what phase and where you are. We don't start with a regular meal when we're cleared for regular food. We take it easy when introducing new foods, and keep our meals protein forward or protein only.  We dont' usually eat at the mall - fast food is to high in oils, sugar and carbs. Keep cheese sticks and jerky in your purse or in the car. Peanut butter crackers are good too.

I am allowed to eat everything per my Surgeon, regular food. That is why I'm asking my question. Like where do I start?

I agree with Janine even if you didn't like her response it's the truth.  Fast foods early out shouldn't even be on your radar.  This is the time you learn the best about fueling your body and optimizing your weight loss.

Pack a bag if you are going to be out (cheese sticks, almonds, beef jerkey, etc.).

If you are going to a restaurant then choose a lean protein and veggies.
