How often do you weigh yourself and why?

I know there are various reasons re: how often a person weighs themself, and I'm interested to hear them.

When I was early out, I only weighed once a week to keep my sanity.

Now I check every day to keep myself accountable.

I also have an expensive but worth it Withings WiFi scale that communicates with my computer and my laptop, and keeps a graph of my weight, my average, and a line for my goal weight. It also measures BMI and fat and lean mass.

I don't want to regain sooooo bad!

Hello Anne!  I am 6 months out and weight about once a month, one week after my cycle.  I weight in the morning after a shower.  I just want to make sure that I am going in the right direction.  I am a slower loser since I am a revision and did not have so much to loose.  I fear regain as well.  I think I always will, lol.

I have weighted myself everyday since surgery. In the losing phase it's not so important as your going to lose anyway, but once maintenance kicks in, I like to see where I am every morning so I can nip any gain in the bud and adjust my food intake accordingly. I have a 5 pound range that I like to stay in, so anything over that 5 pounds gets taken off immediately (other than stupid water weight during TOM anyway).

Every Friday 1st thing in the morning.  I have a 5 lb range in maintenance, and if I get over it, I cut back and increase the cardio.

I also use my jeans as my guide.....if they are feeling tighter, it makes me back away from the "extras".

I am 7 years and almost 7 months post op -- I weigh in probably once a month.

Why?

Weighing in daily -- makes me stress way more than it's worth.  My body fluctuates several pounds in the course of a single day -- it makes no sense to bother concerning myself over it especially since likely just fluid shifting around.  I have been about the same weight for 1 (2 ?) years now -- and it just doesn't matter to me anymore.

I realized a long time ago that when I stopped CARING about how much I weighed, I started losing a little -- and entered maintenance.

Here I am.

Disclaimer -- I've already dealt with regain -- I had a baby post op at 2 years -- I went from 149 lbs > 210 lbs.  I played with the up and down game after that.  I know how it feels -- but the obsession was worse.

I weigh every day just to keep accountable.  It is just a guide for my eating day.  If I weigh more I eat a little less. It has worked for me.  maria

I weigh every couple of weeks .. or every couple of days if theres a scale handy . I try not to obsess about the results though - because

the more i work out the more I weigh in the short term .. because muscle weighs three times more than fat of the same volume - my body is converting fat to muscle and filling up the muscles i HAVE with water to plump them out and increase their efficiency . Id be NUTS to object to this process because it makes my scale weight 3-4 lbs more !

In the long term of course more moving = a way better looking and smaller shapelier more calorie burning- efficient body !

Similarly a relatively low number in my case usually equals dehydration NOT successful weight loss ....

When my jeans and jackets start fitting tightly thats when i start getting concerned and think about reducing my intake .

I only weigh myself when I go to doctor's appointments, and that's only because I don't want to stress about it.

I think the last time I noticed your pregnancy ticker, I had just recently found out I was pregnant, Now that I've had some ultrasounds, looks like we are ONE DAY apart! I'm due March 27  :)  (though I fully anticipate going into April since it's my first, and my mother ran 3 weeks late with my older sister!)
