Have any of you tried the 5 day pouch test?  If so how did it work?

If you are checking to see if your pouch is functioning well thry this-

See how much of a  cooked boneless skinless chicken breast (no breading, carbs or sauce)  Do not drink while you are trying this, chew well.

After 8 years and being able to eat very large meals by breaking the rules I can still only eat 2-3 oz. of the chicken.   My pouch is intact.

It's a fad diet that will contribute to metabolism problems ...   Belongs with all the diets that we did before surgery - Cambridge, Slim Fast, Grapefruit, Cabbage etc.

If you follow the basic rules of RNY living ie:  protein first, good quality nutritious food, vitamins, water and daily exercise you will never need to undertake a fad diet again and your metabolism will remain more stable!!!!

Amen Sin Kim. the best answer I heard in a while short and to the point, basic rules of RNY. I follow this and I am 8 months out and I am doing great, no more of those fad diets for me, been on one to many in my former life. I am free from bondage of fad diets, and I love this freedom.. thanks

Why do you think you want - need it?

I did, a few times... my body did not like it very much.I used it a few times to de-carb, and to relearn the full signals.  First day - OK, second - not so much. Wanted to chew my arm off...

Then I discovered that best for me worked the following: (for 2-5 days)

Shakes - liquids during the day - all low carb, 4-5 shakes 9every 2 hrs - helps with the hunger  no more than 100-150 cal per shake), plus a lot of herbal tea, water, etc in between.  Then a small dinner, 4 oz of meat /fish + veggies. (no more than 2-4 oz veggies)
No carbs, not even in milk (water - or unsweet almond or coconut milk as base - not too much).

No artificial sweeteners, no more than one coffee per day. Hot tea, hot herbal tea, etc.

Thanks for the info.  I'm 2 1/2 years post op and I've been eating a few more carbs that I probably should and I'm not talking good carbs either.  I'm mainting my goal weight of 150 give or take a couple of pounds.  I suppose I'm just afraid of falling back into some of my old habits as it's much easier to eat now and I tolorate more sugar now than a while back.  Just need to nip it in the butt I suppose before it becomes a problem

If you are maintaining - try to not mess up with the plan.  You may really get hungry in a very short time.

But you may try to lower the carbs. Or limit the carbs to smaller portion every meal (if you had 1 slice of  bread - have only 1/2 or 3/4..) and replace that calories with proteins.
Make sure you eat often. When decarbing 0 the body may try to trick you into eating more carbs, so eating when you not very hungry - may make a difference.
Very lean proteins - with no fat - may backfire on you. Body can easily convert proteins into sugars... fat - not so much.
For every 5 gr of carbs - I substitute that with 2 gr of fat - healthy fat - i.e. nuts (almonds, Brazil nuts, pumpkins) Instead of milk (lactose = sugar =carbs) I use unsweet almond or coconut milk. I use those milk (maybe 4 oz) to add to my shakes. Getting just a little bit hungry - reminds you of how the real hunger feels like.

But eating on a clock - schedule - prevents you from gazing on carbs.  I use warm tea, or coffee to fill me up when I "get hungry" before it is time to eat.

BTW: iMO - the poster below me suggested: " fat free  rice n beans." That in itself would be my killer. Carbs, carbs and more carbs... follow by a lot  of farts...
Rice - even brown rice - are pure starches... noting worse that getting that into your system when you try to limit cravings and carbs.
Fruits: as lovely as they are - they are loaded with fructose - and that sugar doe not provide satiety after eating...  it doe snot signal the brain that you ate sugar - so the cravings may be even worse than before... I you really want something sweet : get a natural, very good quality 75 or 85 % of chocolate.  Have 1-2 pieces ... but put them in your mouth and let the heat of that slowly dissolve that inside your mouth.  You may never go back to milk chocolate again... lol...
