5k

OK, all is well. I did my first 5 K today in 1 hour, 2 minutes. I was in the back of the group and happy with that. Considering that 22 months ago, I was completely bedridden and oxygen 24/7. As they were transferring me to a nursing home, they told me that I was going to need long time nursing care and be on oxygen with a trake in my throat for the rest of my life. NOT for this Jersey girl. Thank God, the pulminologist, respiratory therapists, and physical therapists knew what to do and didn't give up on me. I'll never be the fastest person doing these things, but this is as good as it gets.

HOW AWESOME!!!! I am soooooooooooooooooooo happy for you! YUP you beat the odds ...who cares about being fast? the goal is to make it or at least TRY ... CONGRATULATIONS....

I ran the Children's Christmas Run 5K this morning in 20 minutes but then I am a runner ... go figure before my WLS I could not even make it up a flight of stairs to assist my DD who had taken a fall ... I was dragging myself up when the paramedics removed me to get to her ... that WAS a turning point .. and I can't and won't go back ... I have options ... ....

Thank you.  The only run I do is to the bathroom.LOL But I'm happy with myself. I'm now thinking of doing the 5k on St. Patrick's Day.  I think this could become addictive in a good way.  God has blessed me with some really doctors and medical staff(therapists, nurses, etc)

FOXY-your post brought tears to my eyes!! Girl-you keep up the AWESOME work!!! A 5K is a FABULOUS milestone!! Last year I did one with a friend of mine who pre op had been bound to a wheelchair, due to her weight-and now she can do a 5K-talk about a WOW moment!!!

It's NEVER too late to start. I completed my first half marathon (13.1) miles last year, at age 53, then did my 2nd one last week. Yesterday was the first day I can walk without limping/moaning, but it is SO worth it..just because I CAN..I sure wasn't FIRST..but I  wasn't LAST either...there was a handful of peeps behind me..lol

Keep up the GREAT work-and always be ready to SHARE it here!!

Thank you so much for sharing this. It's amazing to me the inner strength that we have and don't realize.  We are so strong and, at times, don't give ourselves credit and use.
