1) Have you picked what surgery you are having?
2) How many surgeries has he/she performed?
3) Success rate?
4) Complication rate?
5) Laparoscopic or open surgery?
6) How many days in the hospital?
7) Does he have a follow-up program with a dietician, support group?
8) Do you know EXACTLY what his program is (what you can eat, drink and when and what supplements to take)? If not, ask when you will learn this.

In addition to those questions, some I also asked are:
-What is the average operating room time (lets you know how long you will be under anesthesia)
-Will you have a private or shared room post-op on the surgical floor
-Will you require a drain, if so how long?
-Is there a registered dietician available to you post-op and throughout the process?
-How rapidly do you expect me to lose weight?
-What are weight lifting limits?
-When/what kinds of exercise will I be able to do?
-What specific requirements do you want to look for in protein drinks (carbs/sugars/calories/etc.) - this may be something the dietician addresses instead.

And you will definately want to know what tests the surgeon will require?
- cardiac clearance?
- Endoscopy?
- Sleep Study?
- Ultrasound of Liver?
- Pre-op physical to be performed by surgeon or farmed out to internist?
- Pre-op labs
- And what hospital he will perform the surgery at. (The hospital will have its own protical requiring pre-op labs, a chest x-ray, etc.).
