Question Goal wt VS IDW
I am curious about something and I might have asked this before. My surgeon told me my IDW is 143 but he thinks I will be somewhere between 150-160. My question is with my height being 5'8 should I shoot for the 143 (would this make me look sick) or just set goal at 150? What have all of you done? Or do i just shoot for a size I am 252 and already down to a 15/16.

my surgeon never said what my ideal weight was or what i was expected to get to - maybe he will on wednesday, since this will be my first post-op appointment.. when i was filling out the health information here, i just went with the old insurance chart numbers, which probably arent realistic.. the formula actually is 100 pounds for the first 5 ft tall, then 5 pounds for every additional inch.. since im 5'7", this puts me at 135.. i probably will never get near that number, but i would be happy to be anywhere in the vicinity of it lol.. i think when you get near there, youll find what weight/look makes you most satisfied.. i think sometimes the numbers arent really that important
OMG, you're the first person I've heard mention that "rule of thumb" formula, 100 lbs for the 1st 5 ft and 5 lbs for every inch after that. That g-d thing has been in the back of my mind for 40 years.
And now I've achieved it. I am 5'7" and weigh 135.8, a weight I have been maintaining, more or less, for about 8 months now. Holy ****!
So don't think it's not achievable - it is! However, I didn't set this weight as my goal. My body did. I just put one foot in front of the other, food plan wise, which I decided was a lifetime thing, not a WL thing, and just about the point I reached this weight, my capacity increased slightly so that I was eating more calories (although still low-carb/hi-protein), and my WL slowed/stopped.

I aimed for a healthy BMI.
I feel like our tool works to a point then our bodies naturally stop losing when it gets to where it should be.
Give it about 8 months then re-evaluate where you are!
You may be perfectly happy......
If you wish to lose the extra 10-20 lbs then you just exercise more, cut the carbs and up the protein.

My surgeon said my goal should be 178, once I got there I felt like it was still too high and I kept reducing my goal 10lbs at a time until I reached my ultimate goal of 138 which was the ideal weight for my height of 5'5. You have to pick a weight you feel good with and that makes you happy. No one can know that but you, not even your doctor. As long as your bmi is within a healthy range whatever you choose will be great. I currently weigh 140 and am happy here.

I have no idea where I will end up. I've been setting goals as I make a goal. A goal to get under 200 was met and the next goal is 180. I looked and felt good at 160 in the past so it would be nice to be at least that wt again.
Banded Oct 2008: 290

Dr's set goal: 170 reached Oct 11, 2012
My goal: 160 reached Dec 1, 2012
Today : 145-150
I am half the person I was in 2008.
My Dr. never gave me a goal weight. I made my own for 150 originally, and figured I'd be happy in a size 12. I had no idea what weight went with what size, so either of those was going to be it (probably which ever came first). Now, I'm sitting in size 4 pants and small to medium tops. No matter what YOU want your goal to be, your body will make up it's own darn mind. I did get down to 128 for a long time and just stayed there but looked fairly unhealthy. I'm now floating between 133 and 138 depending on the day and feel and look better in some regards. I like that range so will try and stick there for the long haul.
