Hi all.  Just got my results from my yearly labs.  I am 2 yrs out.  My iron was found to be low. My doctor has put me a pretty hefty iron supplement that I have to take twice daily.  I remember reading on here awhile back about not taking iron and calcium at the same time because one negates the other.  How far apart do you have to take them?  I have to work this iron supplement into my daily supplement regimen. Any suggestions?  Thanks for the help!!

I believe its 2 hours apart for calcium and iron. :)

2 hours. If your supplement causes you issues, you might try the carbonyl iron from vitalady.com .  Several have commented here that this form of iron is easier to deal with, causes less constipation issues, etc.  DAVE

Take your calcium with milk and your iron with vitamin C, and not at the same meals.

There is an iron supplement for pregnant ladies that you drink and apparently goes down very easy. I will get the name.

Join the group. We all end up in the iron deficient group, I think.

I am trying VitaLady.com  Proferrin to see if I can get my iron back up where it belongs.  I had blood tests done about 2 mos ago and it is coming up, but a really slow process.

Add Green Beans to your diet they have some iron.  I found that I didn't absorb the tablets I guess at all cause my iron kept going down.  Seems like the VitaLady brand is working for me.

It is hard to get because they get it from some other place, but it is worth the effort.  DON'T FORGET to take Vita C with it.  Helps it absorb so much better.

When to take it?   I usually take mine in the middle of the day so it is between the other vits I take in the AM and PM.  Works pretty well for me.  I just get tired of taking all the supplements.

Oh well, the price you pay for trying to stay healthy.

God Bless and Best of luck,  keep us posted on how it goes for you.

Thanks for the responses.  I was surprised at the low iron results because I feel really good.  Have lots of energy, etc.  I think that I will try the iron that my doctor prescribed and if I don't do well with that, I will check into Vitalady's iron supplement.  I really don't want this to get to the point that I have get iron infusions or anything like that.  I have read on here that some people have had to do that.  And i didn't know about taking iron with vitamin C.  Thanks for that tip!!
