 does it cause diarrhea?

What can cause diarrhea varies from individual to individual.  Personally if I have some of the SF candies  that contain sugar alcohols, my body doesn`t care for it and I end up with diarrhea.

Is there something particular that you have noticed when you eat?  Are you eating dense protein?  taking all the required vitamin and mineral supplements?  I find the calcium to be binding (hard stools).

Are you sure you are not experiencing dumping or lactose intolerance? After my VSG, I was more sensitive to dairy and sugar. Certain things can have that effect on you regardless of how little you eat.

Being a new post op, your diarrhea is probably caused by one of these items:

1) lactose intolerance (may or may not include all dairy - including whey protein)
2) artificial sweeteners
3) bacterial imbalance - add probiotics (may be as simple as eating daily yogurt)

Try eliminating these items from your eating for a few days and see what happens.  If you notice a difference, add new things one at a time to see what brings it back so you can find the true culprit

Malabsorption is a sympton to RNY.  You have it.
There are some foods that you're not absorbing all of the calories and nutrients to.  With RNY, this lessens over time, but always assume you have it (esp on the nutritional end).

Malnutrition is a symptom of malabsorption.

Malabsorption is the main reason that weight is lost after RNY.  It lasts for about eighteen months after the surgery. Its biggest symptom is massive weight loss. If you eat fatty foods, you will get diarrhea.  Not enough fat or fiber and you will get constipated.   After five years, I am still taking fiber pills every day and keep a supply of laxatives and Imodium to use depending on what my intestines are doing that day.  Sometimes I go for long periods of feeling completely normal, then other times it is a lot of constipation or a lot of diarrhea.

I thought if you had RNY surgery you stayed in malabsorption for life. Could you please send me an answer?  [email protected].   Thanks
