Trying to get back on track!

Good Morning!

I had my surgery over 5 years ago and have really done well until recently - I went from 285 pounds to a low of 145 (I am 5'8" and really prefer to be between 150-155)... but lately - ugh... I find myself gaining weight again....Since I am now able to eat almost anything I am trying to rework my diet going back to the basics, but wondering if anyone else starting slowly gaining as they got older?  I keep hearing from friends as you get into middle age, expect a few pounds to creep on for no reason but I do not ever want to be overweight again.  I exercise almost every day and for the most part eat very healthy meals.

If you were in a similar situation and was able to get the weight back off I would really love to hear your stories!  Thanks.

I had RNY 4.5 years ago. If my weight creeps up 3 pounds, I cut back 300 calories a day and eliminate crappy carbs until they are gone. It works for me.

Do you track your food? When I need to cut back, I weigh and measure everything religiously until the weight is gone.

Laura - that is a great tip - I need to get better about tracking... it's one of those items I neglected as I got further out.

I'm 7.5 years out and regained about 15 lbs from my lowest weight.  I did expect some bounceback, for many before me encountered the same.  I'm not too panicked about it for that reason, but am more mindful.

Thanks Val...  Before surgery I would have been so happy with weighing what I do now but I just do not like the way my clothes fit and there is NO WAY I am going to buy bigger clothes!  I think that alone will motivate me to lose the 10 pounds!

My secret weapon is my scale.  I still weigh myself daily and am always aware of what I weigh.  If the scale goes up I eat less and exercise more.  I don't want to wake up one morning 20 pounds heavier.  That does not happen unless you quit weighing yourself.

I am going to steal (okay borrow!) your secret weapon... thanks!
