I had my surgery in 2010 at age 60, I am now 63. Best thing I ever did, no complications, maintaining for about a year and a half.  Go for it!  Feel free to ask any questions.  Also you might want to come over to the VSG forum, I hang out there mostly.

I am 62 and am just considering going for a consultation. Other than my weight, I am in good health. Did your surgeon require any extra medical tests prior to surgery? It has taken me so long to get to this point, I would hate to be turned down due to my age, not to mention embarrassed! Kate

Starlight - same here, basically good health...every surgeon has different tests...I had venus doppler, chest xray, needed cardiac clearence (stress test in my cardios opinion), pych eval, certain blood tests, and probably one or two I'm forgetting.  but since I needed to wait 6 months to fulfill nutritional counseling, I did them at my leisure during that time.

Age, no, not a problem at all!  I've heard of 70 yo's getting wls .

good luck!

I had my surgery in Mexico, but I had been approved by insurance, so went thru all the tests and pre-surgery evaluations before deciding to go to Mexico due to the much greater surgical experience in my particular procedure.  (The only local surgeon approved by my insurance had only done a few VSGs because it was considered experimental by insurance companies for a long time and just started being approved around the time I got involved. Plus he tried to talk me into an RNY.)

No one said a word about my age, either in the U.S. or my Mexican surgeon.

60 yo here, just did it a month ago....was no problem what-so-ever...and considering it was my first surgery ever, never had kids, so hey, really new to hospital/surgery/etc.

yes, come over to the VSG board, it's quite active, and newbies come on every single day.
