Eating Healthy and Enjoying It!! I Would Never Have Believed It!

So I'm having lunch at my desk as I write this...the same thing I basically eat each day at work - 2 Baby Bell lite cheeses, raw veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, peas and very sweet yellow cherry tomatoes from my garden), light dip, and crackers.  I even save the crackers until the end, which I never would have done in my pre-surgery life!   I marvel each and every day how much I actually enjoy this meal, and other healthy meals that I now eat.  Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, chia and hemp seeds is wonderfully tasty!  (Is this me talking???)

I feel better  - physically, emotionally and mentally when I stay on track and eat healthy meals and focus on the protein (although it can be difficult).  Eating healthy on a regular basis, and eating in moderation is a completely new lifestyle for me.  I'm a vegetarian and my four basic food groups used to consist of: Bagels/Muffins/Bread/Donuts/Cereal, Chocolate, Pasta/Pizza, and Diet Coke.

People and books warned me that WLS patients' tastes change, and there were lots of things that were truly repulsive during the months after surgery, but I'm glad that I'm enjoying some healthy foods.  I just wish that all the crappy foods I listed above turned me off, but they still call to me, and I sometimes answer, to my detriment.  (Why couldn't I have been blessed with Dumping Syndrome?!)   But thinking about the Size 2 jeans that I bought last week, and am wearing today (un-friggin' believable!!!!!) helps to keep me on track, most days.  SO THRILLED AT HOW THIS SURGERY HAS CHANGED MY LIFE FOR THE BETTER!!!!!  Yes, I know that I'm in my honeymoon phase now, and it's still relatively easy.  Thank you to all the supportive people on this site.  I just gotta start exercising!!

I had my surgery last November.  HW = 230. SW = 228. GWs = 150 / 138 / 128.  CW = 123 !!!

From what you describe - you are eating to live instead of living to eat!  Very

Make a list of things that will help you stay on track such as a list of distractions.  Something such as "Things I can do instead of eating."  Take a photo (if you haven't already) of yourself in your size 2 jeans.  Post it in the kitchen, on your fridge, anywhere that would be a good reminder.  Something else you can do is to continue to post and stay active on our message boards.  Interacting with other members is a good way to also stay on track.

Congratulations on your healthy lifestyle that you are enjoying.

I have a question for you, and i mean this sincerely. How do you get your protein in if  you don't eat meat?  I keep hearing how we have to eat 80-100gms of protein and I"m really concerned. I do eat meat, but heck, that's a LOT of meat. I know i'm going to have a hard time eating that much meat. How do you get around that?

Welcome to vegetarian and semi vegetarian life post WLS !! broken heart

We actually used to have a vegetarian / whole foods  forum and it was FASCINATING ... regrettably the lady who started it moved away I believe and shut it down  ( hint hint ..someone should start it back up ! )

I am a person who just naturally " skeeves " meat except a few times a week ... most of the time I prefer to eat my protein as rice and beans based meals which are also low cal , energizing and filling ...  and I also eat ( drink ) a lot of milk in the form of chai lattes and occasionally a yogurt , I eat lots of delicious lowfat almond milk based pepperjack cheese  and Tofu based lowfat blue cheese ... ( one gram of fat per one ounce serving ( one inch cube ) and make fat free cheese sauces from mac n cheese mix , fat free milk and butter buds to throw over broccoli ...

I also like seafood but find I rarely crave eating ANY concentrated source of protein more than once a day too much .   Sometimes I will include a small amount of animal protein with a large amount of vegetables in  a Chinese style stir fry  to give flavor and let the family eat the meat while I eat the veggies.
