How to make Pantoprazole palatable

Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker for a few months, but just had my RNY surgery last Wedenesday (8/28).   I'm home now and doing well.  But I have a question that I was hoping someone can answer.

My doctor prescribed Pantoprazole (liquid) that I'm supposed to take for 3 months.  I realize it's really important that I take it to prevent acid reflux and other problems.  But the stuff is completely nasty!  Does anyone have any suggestions as to anything I can mix it with to make it easier to get down?  I almost threw up yesterday when I took it for the first time and I"m trying to psych myself up into taking it today.

I'm on a liquid diet for another 2 weeks, but they said I could mix medications with sugar free apple sauce.  I'm just worried that if I do that I will just have a greater volume of disgustingness to choke down.

Did anyone else have this problem?  And any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Kim

I did not have any trouble swallowing pills. It is a relatively small pill. I would tell your doctor how hard the liquid is and ask if you can start taking the pill form.

Thanks. I will call my surgeons office today and see if they will prescribe a pill. Yesterday was horrible again when I took it. I can't imagine another 3 months of that!
