Help Diarrhea!
I had my Sleeve surgery on Friday. I came home from the hospital Saturday. I have been taking in clear liquids with no problem. However, on Monday I started to have diarrhea multiple times a day. The more liquids I put in the more liquids to come out. I am not having any nausea or chills or anything that would suggest "dumping syndrome". My doctor started me on full liquids on Wednesday to try and get more solid liquids in to slow down the diarrhea, well guess what it's Thursday and still diarrhea multiple times a day. Other than that I feel great. Is this normal? Or has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned?
Any time I have surgery I have diarrhea for at least a week afterward. Doesn't matter what kind of surgery--gallbladder, hand, parathyroid, etc. I had the sleeve 12/31/13, so I'm just 5 weeks postop. I was on liquids the first 3 weeks and guess what?! I had diarrhea for the first 3 weeks. Liquid in, liquid out. Once i started on some pureed, and especially on soft mushies my stools firmed up.
I have a history of IBS, but it rarely leads me to constipation. Diarrhea is my thang. I can get diarrhea from stress, diet, traveling, or even from watching a scary movie, for heaven's sake.
When you say "diarrhea" what exactly does that mean? Mushy, soft stools? Ho****er stools? Runny, muddy stools? If it truly is frequent unformed liquid stools, ask your doctor at what point he might want to test you for C-difficile. It's an opportunistic infection commonly found in hospitals. People who have had recent surgery, taken a lot of antibiotics, or who have poor immune systems seem to be most at risk. It can be hard to treat, so speak up if the diarrhea keeps happening.
Being that you've consumed nothing much but liquid, I would expect your stools to be quite loose and watery, but not uncontrollable diarrhea. You can take Immodium to get it under control. Follow with some yogurt to get some good bacteria in your gut.

Thanks every one. Yes it is really gassy liquid stool. I have been taking in cream soups strained, plain nonfat Greek yogurt, fat free pudding and protein shakes since Wednesday. The diarrhea has slowed some but not stopped. I have an appointment with my doctor Tuesday so by then I am praying that it will stop. Today was the first day that I actually began to feel weak and light headed so I am really just taking it easy and getting the fluids in. I appreciate the suggestions and advice.
