It's MY FAULT

So many posts on this and on the the other boards about regain, losing control, considering  revision (for failure to lose not for surgical/medical problems).

Newsflash. If you are gaining weight you are eating too much of the wrong foods. End of story. No ifs and buts. You are taking in more calories than you are using.

There might be medical reasons (thyroid issues for example) which make it harder, but the basic fact still remains. If you are gaining weight, you need to change your eating. If you are in a stall lasting months (not weeks), you need to change your eating.

i have personally regained. I need to lose about 20lbs. My clothes are tight. I start each day well and then lose control. The most I am doing is not gaining more.

AND IT IS MY FAULT. It is not the fault of my husband who likes eating out. It is not the fault of my grandchild who baked me some cakes. It is not the fault of work colleagues who bring in chocolates. It is not the fault of cold weather making comfort foods desirable.

I know what foods are fattening. I know how much I should eat. I decide what goes into my mouth. I have had surgery which helps me.

It is MY responsibility. It is ME to blame.

Edited for typos.

Good post Kate - I feel ya.  Taking responsibility for one's one actions is key to success in all aspects of life!  Instead of saying "it's my fault" though, I say "it's my choice".  It makes it seem less like a personal flaw than a decision to one thing or another.  And sometimes I make the wrong choice for sure!

It'll be spring soon, then summer, which, if you're like me, will make it easier go get out and play, which helps burn off some of my not so good choices!

Yup......its all about what you eat......and its forever........

.....and, in my opinion only.....you cant exercise it off.......exercise is great  for mind and body and overall fitness and vitality......and you may be able to eat a few more calories if you are super active.......but it still comes down to what goes in .......damn anyway!

My favorite saying is "You lose weight in the kitchen, not in the gym".  I enjoy exercise now and do it for my health and strength but I know it's all about what I eat that will determine whether I lose or not.  I could scarf down 500 calories in less than 5 minutes but it would take me about an hour of intense running to burn near that.  Exercise is great but if you eat crap, it can't help you lose weight.

A girl after my own heart :-)  I like to say that "the battle of the bulge is won at the table, not the gym".  Exercise is about cardiovascular and muscle fitness...not about losing weight.  You can't exercise away a bad diet.

Being overweight is like being in financial debt. You can burn more calories, just like you can earn more money. But neither will make much of a dent. You can eat food faster than you can possibly burn it, and you can spend money faster than you can possibly earn it.

Cutting back is the only solution.

LOVE that analogy, Grim!!!

14 years out; 190 pounds lost, 165 pound loss maintained

That is so, so true.  Both of those bad habits are so hard to break.  Spending too much money, and eating too much of the wrong foods are things that most all of us have struggled with, and we can really relate to.  Thanks Grim.

Being 4 years out from VSG, I can really see how important each food choice is in my diet.

Wishing you all the best, Carol
count your blessings!!!!   At goal weight.   I am 5 ft 3.

Agreed. :(

i got SMO because I abused my body with food, and the only way I'll reach (and stay at) my goal is if I'm able to break that cycle of abuse.
