Hi, My name is Dawn and I'm looking for some answers if anyone can help me! I have this thing I guess it's called a n "Candy Cane" attacted to my RNY, I get really sick from it, I get it the point where I can eat a lot then I throw up or I'm really sick the whole day, I can't eat a full meal but maybe once a day and then I pick all day because my tummy hurts all day long. My doctor say I would be okay, it don't have to be removed but I think it does. I'm 4 yrs out and my weigh went from 297 to 184 is all and I don't think it's from the surgery because I lost 26 of that before surgery and when I went for my 1yr check up they say I only loss abt 55 lbs total (that is with he 26 lbs) So I have been doing everything to get my weigh down where it's at now, meaning walking, gym workout, playing with the grandkids, and changing my diet.....But I think this Candy Cane needs to come out!!! WHAT DID YOU ALL THINK???

I've never heard of this phenomena;  please get a better name for your problem, or a clearer description.

'Candy Cane Syndrome' is when the gut gets twisted, causing a partial obstruction. THIS IS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING. Whoever told you it'll be okay---well, I'd not be using that doctor any longer.

Talk to a good bariatric surgeon ASAP.

HI there, I am just at 14 mth post op. I was admitted to hospital last month for severe pain in my stomach and throwing up. They did cat scan and some other tests found nothing so did an exploratory, fully expecting to find a hernia or some bowel issues.
They discovered I had a 5 cm Candy Cane Limb, I recently had a upper GI done and it showed the limb quite clearly as my surgeon says it is the best visual of a candy cane limb he has ever seen... apparently when I drank the liquid stuff it went directly into the limb and it ballooned up...... thus needless to say I am having surgery to remove this ASAP. I certainly would be looking into another doctor if your surgeon is not planning to remove this. Just my opinion, but you are your own advocate for your health.... good luck.
