What's your worst experience after gastric bypass surgery?

Oh, yes, that was several years ago.  It took 5 months for it to heal up, though, and left a scar that looks like a burn.

14 years out; 190 pounds lost, 165 pound loss maintained

No real complications for me!

The worst thing so far was my own poor judgement - eating a few bites too many or too quickly which led to foamies on a couple of occasions and vomiting once. Beyond that, I have felt great and been on the losers bench from Day 1.

Well hello everyone for those who know me I'm still alive :) although there's been many ups and downs. I would have to say that with all I've been through the worst time for me has been this winter!!! Going from my last recorded highest weight of 395 to fluctuating between 118-130, depending on water retention and whether clothes are on or off , I don't know how people who have been skinny all of their lives do it. I'M FREEZING!!!!!!!!!!! I can't take it!!! I need a good 15-20 lbs just for insulation.

No but really everyone is so different and there's probably so many different answers to that question, but the one thing that I'm sure is that if asked if we knew then what we know now would we do it again. Absolutely, positively YES!!!

WHEN LIFE KNOCKS YOU DOWN TO YOUR knees, JUST REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE IN THE PERFECT POSITION TO PRAY. HW 395, RNY 4/2/07 345, Lowest Weight 248,  Revision to Distal RNY 1/13/09 278,Revision to DS 10/15/10

Most people who've been skinny all their lives don't have that problem. We have it because WLS, especially the DS, changes the way we lose heat.

I had my DS on 12/11/03, and my feet have been like ice since about 12/15/03.  But they're skinny feet!(*grin*)

I don't think it's a bad thing for people to hear all sides to this surgery, before making such a huge decision. I wanted to know the truth before I had my RnY, not just the great success stories, but the complications too. I'd rather be informed than to have no idea what might happen to me.

That said, I chose to have RnY in Oct 2005, and have been mostly complication free, until recently. I've had minor issues over the years, with low iron and B12, but now I'm in need of a revision, due to a non-healing marginal ulcer, and possibly a gastrgastric fistula. I can no longer keep down solid foods, and have been hospitalized for dehydration twice in the past 2 months. I saw a revision specialist yeaterday, and he agreed with my other doctors, that a revision is necesssary. I'm scared to go through it. Even more than the first time, because I have 2 kids now, and the complication rates are higher the second time around. If this gives me relief from the hell I've been going through, I'll be so happy. It's been hard on my kids, having a mom who feels so bad all the time. I just want to live normally again.

Even with all of this, I still feel I made the right choice. I started at 378 lbs, and weighed in at 198 today. I'll take some difficult times, over being morbidly obese. I believe I would be either in a wheelchair, or bedbound, had I continued down that path, and not chosen WLS.

I didn't have an RNY, but my worst experience after WLS was getting out of bed the first time. My DS was done open, and my incision ran from the tip of my breastbone to my navel. It took two grown men to haul me to my feet the first time, but each succeeding time was easier.

DSers rarely ever have dumping, but I imagine it's horrible.

Other than nausea for four months after my RNY 3 ¾ years ago, no complications at all, knock on wood.

I'm like many of the others here- I wish I had done my surgery sooner. I'm grateful I am healthy and small. Sure wasn't before surgery.
