Need help with man boobs

Hello! I'm 16 and I have man boobs. It's been really hard for me to cope with it. I really want to do something about it and I want to start now so I can be normal in June for the summer. I started to notice them during the spring of 2013. I think it has something to do with genetics but I'm not sure. My father currently has them now but he's around 50. My older brother has always had them but as a child he was overweight and we think that it's excess skin. They practically destroyed my brother's life and I don't want the same thing to happen to me. It really stops me from being myself. It's starting to change my lifestyle and I'm getting scared.

I'm 196 pounds (not sure if this is counted as being overweight) but I started to try and lose some weight. I decided to do a crash diet but I read somewhere that's not going to help me. It's really embarrassing for me so it's hard to talk to family about it. I just want to get rid of them as soon as possible, but I don't know what I'm suppose to do. My family doesn't have money for a good diet but I can slow down eating. If I need to workout what type should I do? And how many calories should I be eating in a day?

Also, the pictures are pretty bad because I was in a hurry.

I am a little confused. Did you have surgery? Ok if not what do you mean your family can afford a good diet but you can slow down. If you shop well you can find healthy foods at reasonable prices. Do they have an aldis near you? Also if you did not have surgery you may have better luck one posting this in the exercise forum and two maybe on a bodybuilding specific forum like you one you already appear to be on.

Rion, losing weight may help with your problem. But the real reason for your issue may be gynecomastia. Some men actually grow excess breast tissue, which enlarges the chest area giving the appearance of "man boobs". Since you mention that your dad and your brother have the same issue it may be gynecomastia causing the problem, and not just being overweight. Also, sometimes certain medications or bodybuilding supplements may cause the problem or make it worse.

Do you have a family doctor that you can talk to about this? There is testing that the doctor can do which can help determine the causes. You may be helped by medications specifically prescribed for this, or surgical treatment may be in order. Generally doctors like to wait a while before surgery, however, as enlargement of the breasts is a common occurrence in boys who are going through or who have just gone through puberty. If puberty has caused the enlargement then it usually resolves.

Gynecomastia or not, it is always a good idea to watch your diet and exercise to take care of your health. There are many resources on the net that can help you learn how to slim down and build up muscle. Doing so may help your appearance, and it most certainly will help you feel better physically and make you better able to cope. I'd encourage you to do some research and make whatever changes you can in your life.

Good luck, hon!

If another health condition is causing your enlarged breasts, treating that underlying condition may help.

If the reason for enlarged breasts is being overweight, weight loss is often the first step.

If you have a lot of weight to lose, it may not shrink your breasts back to normal size, due to the stretched-out skin. Plastic surgery is an option for that.

Surgical options for enlarged breasts are to get liposuction to remove fat and scalpel surgery to remove glandular tissue. A plastic surgeon does the surgery, which takes 60-90 minutes. It's an outpatient procedure, meaning no overnight stay, and it often dramatically improves appearance.
