We're looking forward to welcoming you to ‘Obesity: Causes and Consequences’ on Monday 9 June.

Over the four weeks of the course we'll use videos, articles, quizzes, discussions and polls to help you to understand more about obesity and the future challenges that it presents to society. By the end of the course you will have a better understanding of how we define and measure obesity, how it is caused, the consequences it has on health, and how research is helping us to understand obesity.

In the first week of the course we'll focus on definitions of obesity and its prevalence around the world. We'll also look at public perceptions of obesity and discuss the prejudices that overweight people can face.

Before the course starts, you might like to think about your own views of obesity. What do you think causes obesity? What are your attitudes towards obese people? We'll have an anonymous poll in the first week in which you can share your opinions.

If you're a social media user you can start discussing the course with fellow learners by using the hashtag #FLobesity

If you complete the majority of steps and complete all the tests within the course, you will be eligible to purchase a Statement of Participation that will provide a physical record of your participation. You might find this useful for providing evidence of informal Continuing Professional Development (CPD), commitment to your career, or of your awareness of the issues in this subject area.

We'll be in touch again a week before the course starts. If you'd like to invite friends or family to study with you, there's still plenty of time to do so. They can register at:

See you on 9 June.
